Inhalers & Apnea
Inhaled corticosteroids such as fluticasone may quell the symptoms of asthma, but a recently published University of Wisconsin-Madison pilot study suggests that in some people, these inhaled drugs make the throat and tongue more floppy, promoting sleep apnea. Use of reliever inhaler
Hi This is my first post on the forum - never really knew it existed until I was googling the other day! My history - diagnosed with asthma at 9 years old (just salbutamol easybreathe inhaler 2 puffs when necessary) then about a year later I was put onto beclomethosone 200mg 1 puff twice a day. I

New Combination Inhaler
My wonderful Asthma Nurse (though she's not actually one), but she's the one I've seen the most for my reviews. She's just put me on Fluticasone 250mcg/Formoterol10mcg inhaler to see if this one makes any difference. Though she notices that my PF dips during the late part of the week, and can really

Montelukast & coordination problems
I started on Montelukast in late October, and some time between then and the middle of December I developed a bad tremor that mostly affects my hands and arms. I've also become extremely clumsy, regularly walking into stuff, and I drop things without warning. My hands frequently seize up, and then I

Moon face woes
Since being diagnosed with adrenal failure in March, I've been on hydrocortisone daily. Initially it was 20mg/day and I've now reduced it down to 10mg/day. I also take Seretide, was 250/50 x 2 puffs am/pm. Now I've been able to reduce that down to 1 puff am/pm because my lung function is so much better

Symbicort versus Advair (No I am not an advocate for either Pharma! merely making info available)
recently published in the British Medical Journal, shows that treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with SYMBICORT® (budesonide/formoterol) was associated with a lower incidence of pneumonia and pneumonia related death, compared to treatment of COPD patients with ADVAIR® (

Salbutamol and blood sugar levels
I've just found out (googled a hunch) that high-ish doses of salbutamol and salmeterol can raise blood sugar. This happens through the same mechanism that lowers potassium, and as I regularly get low potassium, I'm guessing that I also get the blood-sugar raising effect. On saturday I had lots of acute

Dymista (new treatment for hay fever)
http://www.mims.co.uk/news/1178978/Dymista-new-combination-intranasal-rhinitis-treatment/ Thought I'd post this as a separate blog for anyone struggling with hay fever (excessive pollen levels are expected this year) Only just approved by NICE, available on prescription, it's a combo of antihistamine

Just saying hi
My GP has just prescribed me Prednisolone and Salmeterol to get me over a bout of severe symptoms; I was diagnosed with asthma many years ago but hadn't bothered keeping up with inhalers as it was so mild and I didn't want to get dependent. Tomorrow is the last day on the Prednisolone, and it looks like

Salmeterol and Montelukast
Just got some new medication for my asthma from the docs , the asthma nurse has given me Salmeterol 25mcg instead of my usual preventer inhaler since i didnt feel that it wasnt working well enough and most times found it would bring on my tight chest and breathlessness and would reduce the effectiveness
