Hope for slowing or halting PD: 5 repurposed drugs that are in clinical trials that show very strong promise
There are 5 Repurposed drugs currently being trialed and 2 (Israpidine and Inosine) are in Phase III. Those involved in a trial, or involved outside of a trial, can offer valuable feedback- Israpidine, used to control high blood pressure with a calcium channel blocker, can cross the blood brain barrier

Article on media hype, from both a patient and a scientific perspective
This recent article may be of interest. "Nilotinib for PD" gets a big mention. https://parkinsonsoutreach.wordpress.com/2017/04/06/media-hype-patient-and-scientific-perspectives-on-misleading-medical-news/ There are also a couple of related articles from Scientific American and MJFF

Reservations about participating in Clinical Trials...
After reading the book "Bad Pharma" I developed some concerns about participating in Clinical Tests. The book was written a few years ago, so some of the issues raised may no longer be applicable. But here are ones that caused concern. (These are NOT related to 'medical safety' or the 'ethics of running

Nilotinib & Parkinsons with LBD
I have had my husband taking 200 mg Nilotinib daily purchased in Mexico for 16 months. It see to have helped him physically, & has perhaps slowed the progression of his Lewy Body Dementia. Has anyone been on it for that length of time & how were your results?

Recruitment has begun for the Georgetown University "PD Nilotinib" phase 2 trial
On the Clinical Trials website, the project description for the Georgetown University "PD Nilotinib" phase 2 trial has recently been updated. The "Estimated Study Completion Date" is now given as "July 2020". Recruitment has now begun. In an email to me in November last year

A Lung Cancer Blogger's Story
My treatments to date:
erlotinib
for 10 months, then a phase 2 clinical trial of rociletinib for 8 months, and most recently osimertinib for 8 months and counting. I am currently feeling shockingly well. I am a realist, however, and know that this lovely period will not last forever.

Another interesting blog post from Alan Hoffman
Alan Hoffman, one of the participants in the first Georgetown University nilotinib trial for PD, has just added a new post to his blog (17 Nov 2016). In this post he makes reference to the program BIG, and to the drugs Rytary and Tasigna (nilotinib), which he is taking. http://advenventurouslifewithparkinsons.blogspot.com.au

Hi, I live in Hyderabad, India and have been diagnosed for Parkinson's in October 2014 and my symptoms started with tremors and gradually this has increased and I am also suffering from dystonia (rigidity and body pains). Is Michael J Fox organization holding up key PD research?
I have been wondering why is taking SO LONG to get the next Clinical Test underway for Nilotinib, an anti-cancer drug drug which in a small test, appears to slow or stop progression of Parkinsons. With initial (albeit a very small test) of the drug that was completed with results reported OVER A YEAR

A reference to a new GU nilotinib trial for PD?
Alan Hoffman, one of the participants in the first Georgetown University nilotinib trial for PD, has just added a new post to his blog. If I've understood him correctly, he says that the next trial is planned to begin in January. He also says that Novartis have promised in writing to provide

About Nilotinib
Yea I know, I am on hiatus, but I am rendering video files which take about 2 hours to make 1 and I was bored (blah, blah, blah....). Threads on Nilotinib has been posted often on this site (dating back 3 years) and I decided to investigate it a bit. When you read this thread you will understand why

What are reasonable expectations for my neurologist
I have Parkinsons. I recently went in for my annual neurological checkup. After reporting in on symptom progression I expressed interest in knowing more about Nilotinib. To my surprise my physician really seemed to know little about it and dismissed the subject with the statement that "there wasn't
