DBS Question

My Partner had the second DBS surgery last week. Installed Medtronic. When is the equipment tuned to experience the benefits? Does it need to be tuned regularly or only once? We are hoping for a great outcome. She is female 56 years has had Parkinson’s for over 10 years.

Thank you

Richard

In my experience it takes more than one programming appointment. I am having my third on Tuesday. Good luck to you.

My husband has had DBS surgery and it took several tunings over a long period of time to get one that he really likes. A lot of trial and error. If your partner doesn't like how she feels after a tuning, don't hesitate to get it fixed. We found that small little tweaks can make a big difference.

What are tunings? When does a doctor decide that dbs is the right decision? Or can a patient decide that?

hi Sushi

The DBS deep brain stimulatior takes two surgeries to install in the brain and right upper chest under the clavicle.

Two weeks afterwards the Drs will tune the frequency to get the best results for the patient. This tuning adjustments on the DBS May take several attempts to get the best results.

I hope this helps
