Professor Graham Hughes' Blog October 2015
Mrs Y.C. was therefore started on conventional anticoagulant treatment – warfarin (
Coumadin
). At first, things went well, but soon it was clear to the patient that warfarin wasn’t as good. Where to go from here?

Had my ablation
I'm still on Tikosyn and metoprolol but hope I can go of those also on
Coumadin
. I'm 71 yrs old so hopefully this will give me a good quality of life. Seeing I feel so good now what does everyone think of my chances of this happening ? Thanks Gail ♥️♥️♥️♥️

I just dont understand
They kept me in hospital for 7 days trying to level out my inr, with a mixture of 30 mg lovenox shots 2x's a day and
coumadin
. Then go to regular doctor, he puts me on xarelto. Then i have my mentral cycle that lasted 28 days of unbearable hemmorging.

Professor Graham Hughes August and September Blog 2015 (mention of Thyroid and Fibromyalgia)
Two years later, the patient remains well and almost symptom-free on warfarin (
Coumadin
), with added Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) for her Sjogren’s aches and pains. An guess what – a third (newer) test for Hughes Syndrome – the so called ‘Beta2’ test, came back strongly positive!

I'm worried
I'm having abdominal surgery on Tuesday, I stopped taking
Coumadin
last Wednesday as instructed, and started lovenox injections, I check my inr at home, yesterday it was 2.0 today it is 1.5......my therapeutic range is 2.5-3.5, as I have had a mechanical heart valve since "98" my doctors are not available

Atrial Fibrilation in Australia
I have had AF since 1996 and have used Warfarin (
Coumadin
) for the same amount of time. I live in Queensland Australia and we have an organization called QML control. (Queensland Medical Laboratories.) My GP issues a request to QML and they take over from the GP. So no more GP visits.

APS Symptoms
I was diagnosed with APS 2 years ago and am on 4 mg of
Coumadin
and a ASA 81 mg. My symptoms seem to be more nervous system related . Just wanted to see if any one had these symptoms before seeing the rheumatologist and sounding like I've lost my mind.

Turmeric & Blood Thinners
Thank you for the reminder that anyone on warfarin (
Coumadin
) or other anticoagulants should steer clear of turmeric or curcumin. Although this spice has anti-inflammatory properties, it also can magnify the effect of these anti-clotting medications.

Questions regarding Labs
Also have tingling in my face every day in different areas , I wasn't sure if this might be from
Coumadin
or the APS. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, csue2

Confused Newbie
I have been on
Coumadin
since then. I have had 2 out of 3 positive blood tests for lupus anticoagulant over the course of the last 7 months. My dr has told me I will need to be on
Coumadin
for the rest of my life due to that result and the serious of where my clot was.

INR...Can you counter something you eat or drink on the same day?
Coumadin
clinic tells me that alcohol will raise my INR. If I ate asparagus or greens on the same day, would it somewhat keep my INR within range?

Self testing approval in the USA
I know there is much controversy over this, but my old
coumadin
clinic uses a finger prick machine. Since moving I go to a lab now and have it drawn from my vein now. The clinic is confident the results were accurate. What are your thoughts and comments about this?

Complicated case. . . .
I am currently on
coumadin
for the treatment with no end in site. I am still having chest pains and shortness of breath. There is also a good chance that I could get more as the one in my arm goes away.

Monitoring
I know there are other clotting factors besides fibrin, and since I do NOT take
Coumadin
, I wonder if there are ways I can monitor symptoms and compare it to lab work. I don't want to increase my current blood thinners unless necessary... Thanks for all of your insight and info... E

Pomegranate Juice
Warfarin (
Coumadin
) Warfarin (
Coumadin
) is broken down by the body. Drinking pomegranate juice might decrease how fast the body breaks down warfarin (
Coumadin
). This might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin (
Coumadin
). Are there interactions with herbs and supplements?

Fluctuations...
I know that blood "thinness" can fluctuate with
Coumadin
, but I didn't know if any of you have to titrate your meds based on physical symptoms like mine. I appreciate any advice and/or support.

Which "Blood thinner"
This drug is called warfarin (
Coumadin
). Warfarin is an anticoagulant or blood thinner. The drug doesn’t actually make the blood thinner; it makes it less likely to form a clot. Warfarin works by blocking our body’s ability to recycle vitamin K.
