I've been trying to learn more about my partners dilated Cardiomyopathy by getting information from the Internet. All the information that I have read says that a person's life expectancy after diagnosis is 5 years so I feel very scared by this. Can anyone tell me if this is true, please?

I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM for short) back in June 2012 - I was in a bad way at the time and, given what I have learned about the condition since then I am fairly sure that if I had started on the drugs that were prescribed at the time I would not be here now - in 2024.

Can cardiomyopathy develop after inflammation or does it only develop when heart is inflamed? Would appreciate any input.

I made a post yesterday morning and since then I ended up in A&E - I have muscular dystrophy and dilated cardiomyopathy. I was on atenolol for 10 years and felt good on it!

It showed structurally normal heart, no evidence of structural cardiomyopathy, preserved function, no evidence of scarring of fibrosis or reduced blood flow. This is the exact wording on results letter. Thanks

My husband has cardiomyopthy and AF. He had had many procedures and fitted with a pacemaker/defibrillator in March. He has since gone downhill and losing weight and not eating. They are tweaking his meds and another possible ablation. His mental health is suffering. As a wife looking on I find I am helpless

Three weeks ago, I had another cardiac event called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Again, I asked this new cardiologist the question about GCA and PMR, He had no answer. I think that there is a relationship between GCA and cardiac events. I would love your opinion.

We don’t know the exact cause yet as she’s awaiting an mri but my GP suspects cardiomyopathy or a valve issue may be the cause. I saw my GP as I’ve had a high heart rate for years and my sisters diagnosis has left me anxious about it.
