thickened heart

so saw the cardiologist to discuss my recent mri results.

Cardiomyopathy/hypertension borderline- I need another mri in a few months.

My heart muscle thickness was 16mm. Moderate mitral valve regurgitation! (Had hoped for mild)

Anyway, I had an echo done in 2017 after I thought I had heart attack, which I didn’t. I received no letter from the doctor, and was diagnosed from the clinic. So I asked my cardiologist to chase it up:

The echo then showed no sign of murmur, but indicated septal thickness of 13mm, which I was never told nor mentioned to my gp.

I don’t know if this is a big deal, but can’t help thinking if I was told, I’d have taken care of my diet and health more. Have I been cheated?

also at which heart thickness do they class as severe cardiomyopathy?

many thanks

rob

I don’t think they use the term severe, but extreme HCM is >= 30mm. They also usually recommend an ICD at 30mm as your risk of SCD goes up.

so an update on my cardiologist mri report.

Borderline cardiomyopathy/hypertension with mitral regurgitation.

In December my ejection fraction were 55/60%

My recent MRI results showed fractions were 67/81%. Can assume that’s a positive?

81% is above normal range (variously listed as 50-70%, 55-70%, and 55-75%), but is consistent with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
