Boniva with side effects or something else?
Need opinions about continuing Boniva i.v. every 3 months. Started Sept 2019. I've had 3 tx so far. No vertebral fractures but dexa shows clearly osteoporosis dx. Severe, intermittent back pain after 1st tx but wasn't sure from boniva b/c on high dose prednisone since last April due to giant cell arteritis

Feel guilty asking about my illness when so many others are so ill throughout the world. But here goes... I'm now on 10 mg prednisone. Actemra was stopped a couple weeks b/c I have a cold. Had Boniva i.v. 10 days ago for osteo. The past 7 days I've had 4 episodes of dizziness, nausea & actually fainted

Prednisone effect or something else
Gca and being on prednisone since April 2019 (80 mg tapering to 15mg now) so odd. Aches or pains I'd have in the past I'd ignore, live with it or go to Dr. But now any symptom I ever have I think it is pred or disease. This is my newest. Last week for a couple of days the palms of my hands itched. It's

Tapering with gca okay
Saw ophthalmologist on 8/15. Says "eyes are better, but not there yet. " Will do another visual field test in one month. Showed me test results on computer screen with dots filling in much of the outer parts of image which I understood to be damage in peripheral visual areas. Does this make sense? Haven't

Waiting to feel better
Neurophthalmologist planned to keep pred at 80 mg until August appt but I think they reduced to 60 mg last week b/c so shakey, weak & difficulty keeping track of my cookies - remembering. Shakiness better but sick 3 days with migraine. Could that be from drop in prednisone? Little less shakey now but

Osteosporosis meds
Hi! I am recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis. My GP says it’s a mild case. I have tried Fosomax and Boniva but I have esophageal reflux and couldn’t tolerate either. He now suggests Prolia but the possible side affects are scary. I am very active, do regular cardiac and weight bearing exercises. I am

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
My doctor suggested a bone density test but since there is x-ray involved, I am concerned.
There is a tiny amount of X-ray involved in a bone density test - about the same amount of radiation that you would get flying from California to New York. We naturally absorb about 1 mrm of radiation

How to discuss osteoporosis treatment with my doctors?
I tried
bonviva
but it aggravated my chronic upper GI conditions, so I stopped & my GP agreed I could try lifestyle methods to slow loss of bone density (nutrition, supplements, excercise & weight bearing activity etc).

IV bisphosphonates experiences?
Before my lupus was recognised & treatment begun 4 years ago, my previous rheumatology clinic had me try oral bisphosphonate treatment with ibandronate (
bonviva
) which aggravated my chronic upper GI conditions, so treatment was stopped.

This is from lovely loretta as her computer is still having problems.xxx
Loretta Hoy Hi sweetie! I miss everybody sooo much! Doug has cleared the pc of any interference, what is left is still the problem of getting online and opening email. Facebook works better, just very slow to react. I am guessing it may be the online connection that is bundles on my cable
