Sweet Syndrome and Sarcoidosis: A Case Report, 2023.
Sweet's syndrome secondary to sarcoidosis in a 38-yr-old man.
Sarcoidosis is a rare condition that causes small patches of swollen tissue, called granulomas, to develop in the organs of the body.
"The association of SS manifesting with sarcoidosis has been a rare occurrence, with only a few cases reported in medical literature. Saliba et al. reviewed the cases with this overlap syndrome and noted that patients had an earlier age of presentation and were more likely to present with fever, atypical skin lesions, and arthritis compared with patients who have SS without sarcoidosis."
"Sarcoidosis and SS can be conceptualized as disorders with abnormal pathologic immune responses directed against antigenic stimuli. The triggering antigen has not been yet established, but an antigen produced by sarcoid granulomata might drive SS and involve inflammatory response from CD4+ T-helper lymphocytes."
"Sweet syndrome with sarcoidosis is more commonly seen in younger women, with papular skin lesions as the initial manifestation."
Uveitis, erythema nodosum, and deeply seated nodular cutaneous lesions more likely to be found in sarcoidosis than patients with SS.
Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) more likely to be associated with sarcoidosis. acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326...
