PUBLICATION: A bitter-Sweet syndrome with potential autoimmune connections, NZ MEDSAFE, Dec 2020.

A 51-year-old woman developed fever, joint pain and a rash a few days after flu vaccination. The case was reported to the Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring (CARM ID 137192). A skin biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of Sweet's syndrome. The case report also stated the patient had presumed Sjögren’s syndrome, an autoimmune condition affecting the glands in your body that produce saliva and tears.

- Sweet's syndrome secondary to Sjögren’s is rare.

- Sweet's syndrome secondary to vaccination is rare (flu vaccination, total no. of reported cases: 4. Reported between 2005 and 2010).

IMPORTANT! You are more likely to develop Sweet's syndrome secondary to infection than vaccination, particularly upper respiratory tract and gastrointestinal infection. medsafe.govt.nz/profs/PUArt...
