Just had my second spell in hospital with this, my last attack was pretty nasty with the fever and joints being randomly attacked. Is this normal ?

Hi Johnny,

Approx. 33% of people with SS have more than one flare-up. Fever and skin lesions are two of the commonest symptoms. Joint pain/swelling are also fairly common. SS can develop secondary to autoimmune conditions that affect the joints, e.g. rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. If they haven't done so already, your doctors will need to rule out underlying autoimmune disease as a trigger for your SS.

Steroid medication is the main form of treatment, but some people require additional/other medications to bring their SS under control.

Thanks Michelle

The issue I have is they can’t find a cause or underlying condition so it’s a painful process to get to any treatment stage, dermatology are involved at last now and hopefully some progress will be made. Your normal doctors havnt any knowledge about sweets and that’s painful too

Hi Johnny,

In 50% of patients there's no known trigger. Hope your dermatology team can give you some answers soon.
