Just doing a 12 week course at the gym. Week 1 and I’ve thrown myself into some strength circuits: kettlebells, burpees, lunges, dumbbells, star jumps, that kind of thing for three gruelling repetitions...

....and I’m dying! Can’t move my arms. My legs are stiff as concrete. I did do a cool down find stretches... what more do I need to do to function the next day or two??

Is this an instructor lead course? I’m thinking if not maybe drop one of the reps in the early days. It’s going to be a little bit like it was when you started running, you’ll ache a lot as the muscles get used to the new activities. Keeping moving in the rest and recovery periods will help, active recovery gets more nutrients and oxygen to the rebuilding muscles. With my arms and shoulders I use standing YTW exercises to keep everything loose, and walking is great for the lower body. Of course, when someone suggests burpees to me, I decide it’s time for a run! Very well done getting started on the course.

I know that pain, it often happens in the beginning of something new. Firstly keep moving a little if you can, I find a gentle walk/ stroll will help, a hot bath and some very very gentle stretches. My first core stability class I could hardly get out of bed after the first week my stomach muscles ached so much, but it does get better.
