Went out for 1st cycle with club in over 2 months. 50k and very hilly. In one way I'm pleased as punch as I smashed to very steep hills that I wanted to do but in other hand I had to stop and call it quits. Shoulder hurt like hell, cramping regularly. I was up from 4am this morning working but I don't think that's a valid excuse. Ended up In the 3rd group and they motored on. Not good. Wife passed me where I stopped and I just a got a lift back 😭😢
Green line is the bit I was meant to do.

You do right to pull up if you need to, it means you will be ready for another day, push past that and you could put yourself out for weeks. It is still a good distance 😀. Rfc x
How’s that not a valid excuse? If you could prep for that ride then 4am you’d have been asleep... maybe still at 12!
Rewind the clock a year... did you hit your limit then? Much as you didn’t know where it was back then, we both know that your limits are way beyond that now. Completing a 50k hilly ride after not enough sleep and a long day at work isn’t going to eclipse the work you’ve done... and not competing that ride isn’t going to undermine it. I didn’t complete a 4.25 mile run yesterday... I choose to be happy that I did run 2.
Your first ride for a while was awesome... ok, today didn’t go to your plan... but every run/ride/gym session makes you stronger and healthier... you’ll be ready for the next one.
Step away from the frustration and into the celebration of what you are doing these days.
Thankyou. I'm over it now. The annoying thing is that if I had the £700/800 bike I think I would be OK. I don't. I've a £100 second hand bike with 7 gears so my legs are working twice as hard just to keep pace. Learning curve and second time out in 2mnths. As I said I am chuffed that I tackled a few steep hills that I've been meaning to but have always avoided at the same time.
Bike prices amaze me, but I have lifted team GB bikes in their travel cases a few times and they are so light I actually asked if they’d forgotten the bike the first time... and with that lightness and other technical stuff comes a pretty expensive price tag! I’d be happy riding your bike and enjoying myself I think.
