I suffer with splits or cuts on my thumb and fingers - worse than paper cuts. A friend in work told me of something called 'New Skin' by Germoline. Its a small bottle of liquid which you paint onto the cut and it seals it to form a layer of skin. Within minutes the pain has gone and it heals a lot quicker. You can buy from most pharmacies.

Hi Jane, I used to suffer a lot from these splits and cuts and I have using lots of hand cream helps - try and moisturise as much as possible. I use AVEENO - its not cheap but I find is very good...... I know when I have going to get splitting and my skin goes dark and crusty .. yuk .. and no amount of moisture softens it .. then more often than not it turns into an ulcer .... paper cuts, they are nothing compared to our hard splitting skin.
Thanks for your advice about the NEW SKIN by germoline will definately get some in ready !!!!
Have a good Christmas xxx
I have recently tried Golden Ointment from Victoria Health, it has Manuka honey and vitamin E. Its very thick and I normally use it at night and wear some cotton gloves. My hands feel lovely and soft the next morning, but it doesn't last long unfortunately. I just try and do everything possible to minimise the bad effects. The cuts are so painful, I can't bear to put any pressure on them. However I find the 'New Skin' takes the pain away and helps the cut heal quicker. I have tried to putting a plaster over the cut, but they soon come off and don't look particularly nice. Also the cuts are always in an awkward place, like close to my nail. I will look out for AVEENO to add to my growing collection of hand creams!!
Have a good Christmas - keep warm.
Ty aveno and put gloves on for the night while you sleep. It helps with mine.
Hi Jane 18 I have suffered from these splits and cuts in the very early days prior to being diagnosed with raynauds and scleroderma. In the past I consulted my GP, and he looked at my hands and dismissed me as a heart sink patient who was looking for something to whinge about. I was so relieved when I consulted with a rheumatologist and had a definite diagnosis. I then met with the nurse specialist for raynauds and scleroderma. I now can feel assured that if ever I develop any ulcers or splits I can find someone on the other end of the telephone who can offer advice or make a referral for me to have the appropriate treatment. Goodluck to you and take care.
