Wow, my daughter's father-in-law was recently admitted into the VA medical center because of this very thing. However he had diabetes and a dresser fell on his toe ad opened a wound. The VA told him to come back on Mon. (that was a Fri.) and by then his foot had gangrened. They slowely ended up removing his leg to the knee.

Althought Scleraderma and raynauds patients deal with the narrowing of the veins and decreased blood flow, which will also decrease oxyginated blood's flow, you might have discoloration in your extremeties. But BLACK means "NO" circulation, you need to get to the hospital. Surely you have felt a decrease in feeling, a blueish tint before getting to this point!

Scleraderma patients deal alot with gangrened limbs or internal organs. I, myself have dealt with a gangrened gall bladder and it took 2 1/2 mnths in long-term hospital to get over it. But once surgery starts, it speeds up the process of scleraderma everytime. It kicks our immune system into high gear and we are already dealing with this problem of our immune system not recognizing it's own body tissue. It attacks it and destroys it. So try not to let your symtoms get that far!!

In my experience and research, yes this is directly related to Raynaud's Phenomenon..or Buerger's Disease...Buerger's Disease is a circulatory disorder that will cause your toes and extremities to turn black due to no circulation to them..this can also happen to your fingers too. I have been diagnosed with Raynaud's and Buerger's Disease as they go hand in hand. My advice to you would be to stress as little as possible and if your a smoker..quit ASAP or the black toenails will get worse..eventually turning into gangrene and possibility of loosing your toe, finger, or otherwise. I am being serious so please look up Buerger's Disease and see if this could be what your dealing with. I was a smoker of 13yrs and had to quit due to the pain that it was causing me in my hands and arms. I had been to doctor after doctor and they all said they didnt know what was wrong..I kept getting another opinion until I found a doctor that had the answer to my mystery. He said if I didnt quit smoking, I would loose both of my hands within the next couple of years. I hope my story helps...If the toenails continue to blacken or if it starts making your toes black..see your doc asap. This is critical. If you need anymore info..feel free to ask.

Hi, I'm a newbie and have a question.

Did any of you lose the elasticity in the skin on their face before it hardened? Or did anyone have skin that hardened very slowly?

I do have Raynaud's too, have had it for about 10 years.

Thanks.
