What is nifedipine?: - Scleroderma & Ray...
What is nifedipine?
It's the devil!! Just kidding. It is a drug to help open your blood vessels and increase your blood flow. It should prevent or limit your Raynauds attacks. You will see from people's previous comments on here that they have varied experience with it. It did not suit me at all - I had awful headches and flushing limbs! In any event once I was properly diagnosed (I have CREST) I was told that I needed different drugs to treat me anyway. There are a number of options out there - you just need to find out what suits you best and make sure you know exactly what your condition is. Being correctly diagnosed is really important.
Calcium channel blocker Used to treat high blood pressure, and help with circulation As stated above not very pleasant side effects. Good luck if you decide to try it Worked for me for a time but I try to without
I have primary Raynauds. I went to the doctor with chilblains during the winter snow and she prescribed Nifedipine for my Raynauds. I didn't notice any improvement in the Raynauds and suffered dizzy spells as the drug lowers blood pressure - so not a great idea for someone who already has low blood pressure. Other people obviously have different experiences so worth trying!
