New Raynaud’s Diagnosis

Hi All

I was diagnosed last week with Raynaud’s having had numbness and pain in my left foot for about 4 weeks. My toes did the colour change thing in front of the doctor and I also saw a consultant the next day who said it was classic Raynaud’s so that seems pretty decisive. I was prescribed Losartan so have been taking that for 5 days now (not sure how long it takes to kick in).

My question is this though, my big toe has been numb and a blue/red colour for a good couple of weeks and whilst my middle toes seem to go numb and then go back to normal, the big toe just sits there being numb and looking bruised. Several times during the night recently I have also had shooting pains in it for hours on end.

I thought Raynaud’s came on as an attack so I’m a bit concerned that this toe is numb and decidedly unhealthy looking all the time. I’ve tried massaging it and also popping my foot in a bucket of warm water whilst showering but is there anything else I could be doing?

I do have another appointment with the doctor next week which feels a bit daft given there are more important things going on so I would like to cancel it, that said I would like to sleep at night so is there anything in particular I should say to them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm wondering if there's a separate issue going on, if you are able to rub it it doesn't sound too painful so perhaps there's another circulatory issue or something. I'm not sure that people are attending the go ATM, it's mostly telephone consultations , so it's worth mentioning it.

Hi there, I would say phone your practice and ask for a phone consultation, I am not a medical person but the fact that your toe is not regaining it's colour should be questionable. The medication you are on I was taking but it lowered my blood pressure causing dizziness so had to come off it. Hope everything works out well for you and be safe and take care.

Hi djbdjb, I think you should contact your Dr. I just went to the Dr twice in the past week. I have a Raynaud's ulcer on my index finger and it waz extremely painful. The Dr prescribed antibiotic and warm soaks. Fortunately, it opened up on its own or the Dr would have had to. I apologize for providing details; however, I hope this is helpful to you and others. I am applying prescription Mupirocin three times daily to heal the infection and taking doxycycline antibiotic pills twice daily. She also prescribed Nitro cream, a very tiny amount to applied to the opposite end of my finger to keep the blood flowing to that finger when it is cold outside. I haven't tried it yet because I want to wait until it is healed, just in case of side effects. Maybe your Dr can do telemedicine or zoom video conference with you. Please take care of yourself.
