Are you taking Hydroxychloroquine?
Hi Sandie, if in doubt...check it out! Just book yourself and eyetest and tell them about what you are experiencing. Most standard eye tests will include photographic scans of the back of your eye so any issues should be picked up. It is rare to get eye involvement with scleroderma, but you can have overlap with other conditions where you get inflammation of the small vessels of the eye. I have also known people who got calcinosis in their eyes (very rare), although it is more likely to cause pain and redness. Often people have dry eyes, and this alone can affect your vision causing blurring and grittiness. Eye drops can be bought over the counter or prescribed so that might be worth trying.
Hope that helps

It was through an eye exam that I learned I had sjogrens. The eye doc did what I refer to as a "litmus test" by inserting little strips of paper into my eyes, under the bottom lid, which measured the tear production and dryness in my eyes. I was told the "normal" reading was 15 and mine was 3. The doc said he didn't know how I could even blink without pain. I responded..."I can't."
Yeh I thought mine was from the gritty feeling or fatigue. But it kept getting worse especially in the left eye and I just got my eyes check a
Year ago. It is cataracts. I'm young but it happens.
Hi, i was having the same sort of problem. I've been short sighted since i was a teenager and the optician told me at this check that my eyesight has improved, so my glasses are too strong, hence the fuzzy eyes! This can happen as you get older apperantly. So it's worth getting your eyes checked ASAP at least you'll know. Good luck.
Hi Mandy, thanks for your reply that is what has happened to me my glasses are to strong so had to get new glasses and might need my cataracts done soon
I agree that you should have your eyes checked. Don't wait!
I have had poor eyesight for the past few years, and after almost every kind of test going, top specialists in the USA just couldn't explain it.
Two years ago we moved to England, and then back in the springtime of this year, I was driving to town when I realised that the vision in my right eye just wasn't clearing at all. I rubbed and blinked, to no avail. I popped into the opticians and spoke to the optician who happened to be free. He examined my eyes straight away (I couldn't read any of the letters on the test chart), and immediately sent me to my GP. My GP immediately sent me to the hospital E&R. By the time I was seen, they determined I needed a massive dose of steroids to save my eyesight and was referred to a Consultant Ophthalmologist.
Eventually, it has been determined that it was probably GPA, a rare conditjon which is on the spectrum of autoimmune conditions and treatable to some degree with steroids.
My eyesight is better, but cannot be fully restored, so I urge you not to waste any time. If in doubt, then seek help!
Good luck.
