Hi,
Belinda, I have been suffering for fifteen years now and have terrible problems with my fingers amongst many other symptoms which I won't either scare or boar you with.
The trick with finger ulcers I have found is circulation, circulation, circulation. I am currently on 150 mg of sildenifil daily. I also take adalat 60mg daily. You must keep the circulation going. Keep them warm and dry. Never ever get them anywhere near any form of detergent. Shampoo, washing up liquid etc. are asking for trouble. Rubber gloves for all occasions. The Dr will prescribe them for you if you ask. GTN patches can help, personally the sildenifil works better. Get heated gloves, silk gloves, silver gloves. I use them all in different situations. In short, keep them warm and dry and scrupulously clean. There are many pain killers available obviousl. I think you need to speak with your rheumatologist about that and work out the ones that suit you the best. Personally I'm on cocodamol every four hours 20mg of longtec daily and up to 20 ml of Oxynorm every four hours depending on how bad they are. Obviously you want to keep the meds to a minimum. I think the longtec is an absolute life saver. It's a slow release synthetic opioid, it keeps a lot of the pain at bay without knocking you for six. Again it's a personal thing.
I do hope the info has helped you. Don't take no for an answer from the quack. Ever! I know how "bleep' "bleep" "bleep" ing! Painful these little beasts can be and they are not funny. They are life changing. Take care of yourself. Good luck.
Regards. Mark.
