sleep study done

hello

So I had my home overnight study one night last week - two white straps one on chest one in line with belly button with wires into monitor strapped to me between the two. And that finger thingy too. This was last Tuesday 4/4.

I’m worried it didn’t work properly- would they contact me by now if hadn’t worked?

They said about three weeks for results, do you then see consultant? Or Do you only see consultant if something shows up on test?

thanks

I had mine done a couple of months ago, awaiting an appointment with Thoracic consultant, there is a delay, due to the multiple strike going on, don't worry to much just have to get on and not worry. The main thing, is from my tests, my consultant did say, I might have to report and declare it to DVLA and insurance

in reply toBHFK967

thanks I will do my best not to worry! I haven’t been able to drive for a couple months now due to angina so will look at the dvla issue anyway. I just hope the monitor worked. my Apple Watch definitely showed low oxygen during that night. I think I did have points of waking up but I think I was extra tired as I’d spent day in A&E. Had to look up what a Thoracic consultant does 😊

With Apple Watch, loke my Fitbit, they are a tool/guide only, can give a rough idea, but I know with my Oximeter (SpO2) they do vary, as skin changes on wrist, sweat, dirt, hair

noted, only a guide. 👍

From my experience once I had my test done I was contacted within two weeks and put on Cpap ( 68 episodes recorded per hour ) . I am under the Hastings East Sussex Unit and they are excellent and guided me through every step. I am sure you would have been contacted very quickly if the attachments were not correct. Hope all goes well.

thanks I’ll take some assurance from that re whether monitor worked. It’s good to hear it can be quick to get help if needed, if I needed it hope it’s fast in my area.

I was supposed to have a wait of up to 40 weeks to get appointment but due to admin error by my GP sleep people hadn’t seen my angiogram report which shows blood restriction and so the give me a much quicker appt within a matter of a few weeks. Then I thought I’d send them screen shots of Apple Watch readings for several days and they brought forward a week saying I needed different equipment. I guess they can move faster if they think worth checking sooner rather than later so gives me hope of an answer soon.

I still get readings in high 80’s and low 90’s at night but that is my Apple Watch.

A good night’s sleep would be a blessed relief though. 👍

HI, fishface

_ apologies my non native English.... just to share my case:

_ based on my experience with CPAP (actually, more precisely a BilevelCPAP) since 2018 (retirement), which it was, for me, my rebirthing at age of 65, you would have just started up a new fhase in your life (luck also a rebirthing), eventually;

_ not sure in your country, but in mine (also US, Australia, etc), there is two very good alternative to sleep studies to detec SDB (sleep disorder breathing) and its terrifying consequences on healph: insomnia, high blood pressure, diabetes, and so on....

_ first alternative: go and rent CPAP machine (adjust pressure preliminarily), put in yourself a fullface mask to start with, download the free app OSCAR (can be in ApneaBoard Forum, or CPAP talk), buy a Contec Oximeter (attach it in your finger) take out the SD card of the machine, load dataset in OSCAR, and plot them in one of these 150,000 people forums. They promply (including myself) analyse your data and give your proper directions to follow;

_ second: go and buy a second hand BilevelCPAP machine (very cheap in US and other countries), with some 10,000 hrs of use maximum, and go for the above procedures;

_ don't trust in your doctor only: they usually either don't know much about SDB and its consequences, or mess up with healph secure plans, authorization, etc;

_ explore by yourself histories of sucesses on those two foums above, to give you a sense on what I am talking about;

all the best and good luck

I had a pulse oximetry test last October which was a device worn on my finger. I put it on at 9 pm and almost straightaway it started vibrating and buzzing. This went on through the night and I felt like I’d hardly slept - I though that I was wearing it wrong or that it was faulty. A few weeks later I was recalled for the results and I told her that I thought there was a problem and that I had hardly slept. She said that the machine hadn’t been set to silent but that the readings were accurate and that I had managed to get some sleep. My oxygen level had dropped to 78% and there were over 300 episodes when I had stopped breathing and that this was classed as moderate obstructive sleep apnoea. She said I would be recalled for a CPAP machine - that was November and I’m still waiting- apparently there is a huge backlog of patients waiting.

hello thanks for responding, my pulse oximetry thing on finger made no noises but I could see red light in dark! So am assuming it was working. I’m excited to see results. I’m not sure I have sleep apnea but I do see drops in oxygen. Keen to see results.

I hope you get your machine soon. Must be worrying but I’m sure they’d prioritise you on waiting list if needed more urgently.

I look forward to you posting once you get it and share about how you get on.

Will keep you posted. It was really interesting when I got my results, if I were you I would ask the practitioner to write down the numbers that they give you. I was asked a lot of questions before she gave me the results (all the questions she asked were relevant to sleep apnea. I hope I get on with it also and that the noises I make whilst asleep stop. I wear the Apple Watch to bed also. My SP02 drops into the 80s and occasionally into the 70s and my heart rate drops to between 40 and 45. According to my watch i only get about 30 minutes deep sleep per night. The rest of the night is rem or light sleep.

in reply toMaglynne007

I hope I get a report but will ensure ask. I never fully process everything at appointments really annoying, i wear mine to bed too, I stopped tracking sleep as the it doesn’t track oxygen in day but I’m not sure. Think I’ll turn sleep monitoring back on so I have it if asked questions. Just looked back before I turned it off, I get about an hour deep, few hours core and and a far bit rem.

fingers crossed you find the machine ok.

I believe I snore well according to the kids it like furniture being scrapped along the floor 🥴 (single parent so no one to check if I stop breathing or not but I have repeated wakings).

👍
