I am laura and I suffer from PTSD triggered often by sleep the last two years I have been lucky to sleep more than 3 hours before waking up; in total, I am lucky to have 6 hours of sleep a night which is rare so the next day I am shattered. I have tried sleeping pills but hated the feeling they give me the next day as I am already taking a number of other tablets. At the moment I find podcasts and talking books are helping to pass the time and not disturb my partner too much!

I am an expert at NOT sleeping. I didn't sleep much for 25 years. These are my top recommendations: 1) Get your thyroid checked and make sure yourTSH is between 1-2.0.2) Trazedone. This is an anti-depressant that didn't work out very well because it made people sleepy all day as well as at night. I take a low dose to fall asleep. Been taking it for 18 years and it still works. 3) An anti-depressant that works for you. This is the most important thing for anxiety and PTSD. Do not take benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, etc.). They are addictive and are only a temporary solution. An anti-depressant is the remedy for
long-term anxiety.
