Hi guys! I am just writing because this is the first time I've had an opportunity to talk to people who also struggle with sleeping! I have basically been nocturnal for the past 6 years - no matter what I try - including every single sleep hygeine suggestion possible!! Sleep medication has never worked for me and I feel like every time I meet a new doctor/psychologist they make me re-do everything I have tried before - when I tell them I've done this multiple times and it hasn't worked they tell me I need to do it again because it might work this time. Has anyone else had this response from the doctor's? I must admit I have had a very good GP and was prescribed melatonin which did not work, have had hypnotherapy, have used all the advice given- including getting sunlight for at least 20 minutes a day, not using devices close to bedtime, listening to white noise/meditations/story books, getting up every 20 minutes if you haven't gotten to sleep and countless other methods. I also have used CBD oil but have found that marijuana is one of the only things that helps me sleep - however it is illegal in the UK.
Anyone out there with circadian rhythm disorders - how do you cope with either being asleep during normal active hours or not having enough sleep to function (I've had years of forcing myself out of bed in the mornings despite having no sleep)? Thank you so much and I hope to get to chat to lots of you - as hard as it is, knowing other people can understand really helps 💞

I can sympathize with your problem. It's no fun dragging yourself through the day half asleep and then not being able to sleep at night. Very frustrating!
Recently I saw a YouTube video by Andrew Solomon which points to a possible solution. It's to go with your circadian rhythm instead of fighting it. He stays up until 3 or 4am and then sleeps until late morning. He said he has always been like this and that's the reason he chose to be a writer. As a writer he can choose his own hours to fit with his circadian rhythm.
I haven't tried it as it's not convenient for me now but it looks interesting. However I have met some people who have given up trying to have a normal sleep rhythm and they seem comfortable with it.

Hi, my circadian rhythm is the bane of my life...I too have tried all sorts of 'cures' to no avail. Luckily I am retired now, so it's not as imperative I stick to recognised times for sleeping. My mornings are almost non existant now...x
