Hi, I'm new to the site, don't have a problem with sleep myself but my 10 year old son does (which in turn affects mine) and just wondered if there was any advice that could help?
As i said he's 10, 2 years ago he started waking every time i went to bed and i would spend anything from 1-3 hours a night trying to get him to stay in his bed and go back to sleep. Most nights it would end up with both of us in tears and me shouting at him :0(. Anyway he just stopped doing it one day after about a year. Hasn't done it since we moved into our new house and now since Xmas hols hes started it again.
Wakes as soon as i'm heading up to bed and then just says he can't sleep, he's scared, he's worried etc. I laid with him for an hour and half a couple of nights ago and he was still awake at 12.30! Same thing happened last night...i'm exhausted, he's exhausted and i'm at my wits end already as i can't cope with going through this every night again!! Any advice would be very welcome.
Thanks (sorry for the long post!)

He sounds plagued by anxiety particularly being worried and scared of something. That’s what you need to try and get him to reveal. Makes you wonder if this same worry was what caused it before.
Did he get out of his normal sleeping routine while out of school?
I don’t have any advice and very reluctant to say try over the counter supplements to help him relax, calm or sleep without having you talk this through with his doctor.
Thank you for your reply. I agree he 100% suffers with what I call bedtime anxiety. He’s never been a great sleeper tbh & it all originally started after me & his dad separated. He hates sleeping anywhere else other than home, dads or nanny’s. Like I say he stopped & has now started again...he just hates being on his own.
His dad has very quickly & recently moved in with his girlfriend & when he stays there he sleeps in a room with his sister so I think that’s not helping but I can’t do anything about that.
Seeing Doc was my next step tbh as I can’t go through it again & it keeps his sister awake too.
Hoping they might be able to give me something to keep him calm as he gets in a right state which also stops him sleeping. ☹️
