Hello. This is my first post although I have been on the site for years following different topics.
I have had problems sleeping as long as I can remember & don’t know what it feels like to get a good nights sleep. Over the last couple of years, I have started waking up sharply in the night gasping for air & realised I was likely to have sleep apnoea which was confirmed with a home test. I am not overweight. I’m a runner & walker & I eat well so there is nothing else I can do to help myself with this problem that I know of.
The Consultant feels that insomnia is the main problem rather than sleep apnoea. He does not recommend sleeping pills.
I am due to pick up my mandibular repositioning device on Tuesday for mild sleep apnoea & wonder if anyone has any experience/advice on wearing one. Has it helped? Has your bite changed since wearing it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.x.

Hi! I have worn a splint in my mouth at bedtime for more years than I can count. It keeps me from grinding down my teeth and also repositions my jaw, preventing TMJ pain during my waking hours. It's wonderful for that purpose! I don't like the splint in my mouth, it feels very awkward, so I put it in right at bedtime and try to fall asleep asap. It's the 1st thing I address upon awaking, sometimes I even take it out while asleep, but not too often. Doing that means more pain that following day and jaw clicking and discomfort. I'm just a barrel full of laughs! Wishing you the best!
Thank you so much for your response. I, too, have been wearing one for years for the same reason but just on my bottom teeth. I always take it out about 3am when I wake up but, like you, I have taken it out in my sleep sometimes & found it in the bed! The new device fits over both bottom & top teeth. Thank you for your good wishes & the same to you too.
