So last night I had to wear a sleep test to see if I’ve apnea. I have to be back this morning to hand equipment in and see the consultant.
Didn’t sleep great in it. But I know it’s right to get tested. I always feel tired no matter how much sleep I get. I’m 44 and have a lot of stress. I snore, that I know. And the reason for the test as a couple of times I’ve woke up like choking.
Why am I so frightened?

Hi and welcome! Frightened in what way? That they’re not going to find anything?
I understand. If it is found that you have it you will be fitted to a mask that is right for you. There are different kinds and they will go through these with you. They won’t just give you a mask and send you home, though. They have to determine what mask, machine setting, etc. is needed to open your airway. You had a home sleep test (HST) for determining sleep apnea. The next step (if the findings are positive for apnea) is a titration study, which you can read more about here:
I’m glad you’re getting this sorted out since sleep is so important and lack thereof can have bad consequences now and further down in life!
Everything will be okay. 👍
Good luck!
Hi Sunshine - I suspect you are scared because it is such a foreign land. From the cause of the apnea (central versus obstructive), to the mask and how we look in it, how it works, what it will do to intimacy, etc.), it can be very scary.
But please know this. If you DO have apnea, that CPAP mask can be one of your best friends. I have only been on it for about two weeks, and it has already made a major difference in my fatigue / energy levels. I think I can honestly say that I was about at the total tail end of my energy level. It seems to me like if one could die from a lack of energy, I should be dead. Now, I actually have energy to do some things during the day.
Try not to be too scared. It is much better to know than not.. Best luck and gentle hugs...
