I have no medical background, but I always find that a mixture of fresh garlic, chilly, ginger and lemon and honey steeped into a tea really helps me out of a cold and I have recently started drinking a tablespoon of cloudy apple cider with warm water, which can be sweetened with honey, once to three times a day to alkaline the body and build up my immune system. It seems to help me and I would have taken any of this while pregnant with my boys. I also like to take echinacea.
These options can increase heart burn though so having some green apples on hand can be a my favourite and a natural option to sooth that.
I hope that you got over your cold weeks ago, and hopefully this information can be useful to you.
