I’ve finally been prescribed pilocarpine here in the U.K. only to be told the pharmacy’s can’t get it!

Is there anyone else on Pilocarpine here in the U.K.? If not is there an alternative?

Yes started pilocarpine about 3-4 months back. At the moment being prescribed through hospital pharmacy so rheumy is giving me 3 month supply x 3 per day.

I did ask my local pharmacist who after a shock look of someone actually asking about it (he said years), that he could get it tomorrow...& I live in no man's land....so there must be a source...hospital was slow to start with, but could due it the 2nd time... ML

Hi was late when I wrote, restless sleep night. I was going to add if they have not advise you to build slowly with the pilocarpine, don't rush the dosage. I started with 1 a day then 2 and adjusted to side affects & then eventually 3 a day. Can reduce for longer if you are not up to 3 a day... My body felt like it was heating up for a long time, not as bad now.. I take after meals with lots to drink.....ml

Hi Maggielee I’ve been advised to take half a tablet a day and if I don’t have any adverse effects I can increase them. I have asthma so my doctor was reluctant to prescribe them but Elizabeth Price said they don’t last very long in the system so any adverse effects are short lived. How long does it take to notice a difference do you know?

Hi Give it 20 mins. it really helped with dry mouth, it was when dr.p said that it is to help places I can't get moisture too that made me persist with it...

Let us know how you get on...ml

The only other medicine I know of that is basically the same, is Evoxac.

I'm in the U.S so I don't know if you can find it, but I wish you the best.

Thank you for taking the time to respond

I’ve finally managed to get pilocarpine from one of the Chemists. I rang dozens and just when I was about to give up I found one that could order it in. My hubbies gone to collect them now. I hope they start working quickly and I don’t have any problems.

I'm happy you found it. We have enough to deal with, and I've been in the same position, calling pharmacies.

I was given Pilocarpine eye drops , think the pharmacist misread the script. These drops are used only for glaucoma in australia but they helped my dry burning eyes so the opthalmologist let me continue with them. These days hot , wet flannels help.
