surgery near urethra rendered me incontinent

Removing a pelvic cyst last summer required removing 2/3 of my urethra. It has healed but rendered me incontinent. I try doing Kegels but that's not really helping. Is there any hope for improvement or is it a loosing cause. I also had pelvic radiation 11 years ago so the tissues are not the same. Feeling very dismayed at the potential of a lifetime of incontinence.

Have you spoken to a physiotherapist/physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor disorders? They would have a good idea of what kind of therapy might help you.

I am so sorry to hear about this for you. Trust me, everyone here knows the psychological trauma something like this can have but especially when it happens so quickly. I have a few questions and a suggestion to offer. First, are you male or female and how old are you now? My suggestion regardless of your answers above is to find a pelvic floor physical therapist. There are people out there that specialize in this and are very good. I will be honest, it can be a bit embarrassing at times but they are trained professionals.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for getting back. Not sure hw much I can help other than being there for support and to vent too. Im a 47 y/o male and my bladder issues started a little over 10 years ago. I can tell you it's not the end of the world and you can do it. There are so many different products out there to make life easier. Don't let it consume you and don't become a shut it thinking you can never leave the house. PM me if you need to or just want to chat.

Hi I I I went through six weeks of kegel therapy and all she did was have me do a few exercises with a a ball and some step exercises and then after the six weeks she was going to have me come longer but she retired It didn't help me at all so I don't know what the point is I know the other therapy I had for a while were they use a machine and yes that was totally embarrassing I went through three weeks of that didn't help at all I'm just wondering what other kegel therapy there is that actually does help

Thank you. It's now been 11 months. The PT was constructive but didnt really help in the long run.
