Hi, im new here. i 've just turned 43. I discovered i have the sickle cell trait when i was pregnant at 26. I have always had issues with low HB. i have always been active, exercising and so. In april 2016 i was dignosed with osteoarthritis..i was exercising and all of a sudden my knees began hurting terribly..i had trouble walking ..was in extreme pain. Then the diagnosis.
I bought a fitness bike and do my exercises. I sometimes have heart palpitation and my body and legs ache like everyday. I get dizzy at times, see dancing lights before my eyes.
I try eating as healthy as possible.
I really would like to know if the sickle cell trait could be a contributor to my aches and pain.

I have sickle cell trait also and suffer with the same problems. I have to get iron transfusions. I feel better when my iron levels are not low. Also, my blood pressure can drop suddenly making me feel dizzy. Doctors will ignore you. It was not until I found a primary doctor who listened to me and begin to address my problems that I started to feel better. I suffer with body aches too but that seems to improve after I get iron. I can't tolerate taking iron tablets by mouth.
I recently experienced hip joint pain and I had knee pain as well. I began studying cannabis 2018 and discovered through research and training the many benefits and the proper way to use the herb medicinally. Since using cannabis (marijuana and hemp) I have experienced complete relief and lots of healing. I have also incorporated wellness products that helped me lose over 30 pounds, eliminate excess inflammation and mucus from my body and get rid of my joint pains. My energy and stamina and breathing have drastically improved as well. I now have a CBD Wellness Boutique with my salon and I am now a 2X certified Cannabis & CBD Consultant and a Health and Wellness Coach. Any information you need I can help.
You almost mirrored my experience, I would say yes.
I too am 43 and at age 26 I was pregnant with my son. At that time I was informed of the sst. I had issues all my life with anemia, low BP, extreme fatigue when exercising, migraines galore among other issues.
In 2011 I got extremely sick and developed extreme pain all over my body. My knees just didn't work properly, my vision was distorted from the intense dizziness, extreme heart palpitations and I was like this for 1 week before I could be taken seriously by a doc. In turn I was diagnosed with Lupus.
Well now in 2020 still experience the same things almost weekly.
Even with the trait there is sickling that occurs the blood and when those sickle platelets try to flow through the vessels, they get stuck in places throughout the body resulting in the extreme pain.
The joints ( hips, knees, wrist and shoulders in particular) are the areas where the platelets pool. I get hip pain so bad I am unable to walk. If that continues, that is the beginning of necrosis of the hip. Another SC side effect.
I wish I could tell you what I do to alleviate the pain, but I am still searching besides bed rest and I stopped taking pain meds and switched to marijuana when in bad pain. It last longer and no dangerous side effects.
I still bike and exercise when my body permits to keep my strength too.
Please (if you don't) see a Rheumatologist and speak with your Hematologist about the body pain. They may recommend a Pain Mgmt Specialist, but they just push narcotics for pain. I would recommend CBD.
