Does anyone know what complications Coronavirus can cause if you have Sickle Cell? Are we more at risk to becoming critically ill?

My Doctor told me that because of my spleen not function making my immune system weak, i am at high risk, so that goes for anyone else who SCT but has the rare version causing serious health issues, please stay safe and stay in unless urgently otherwise!

Blessings to you all my friends!

I am SB zero and what my hematologist told me was that I needed to be cautious but with my spleen still functioning fairly well I should be a moderately low risk. That’s not the same for SS and SC people but I hope no one panics about that. Just be careful and don’t panic.

Doctors can say what they want, but they don't know until they have a patient who has tested positive with Corona. We just need to be very careful, like everyone else. It seems to react differently with different people. There are no blanket reactions. One person with Sickle Cell can die, someone else can survive. We just don't want to take chances and find out how we'll react to it, do we?
