Has anyone ever had a pulmonary embolism and acute chest syndrome before and was able to get back into having an active life?

I started having recent crisis on my legs for the past year and this month was hospitalized for a pulmonary embolism which didn’t let me breath almost at all. I was required to be ok oxigen and ended up with acute chest syndrome , pre pneumonia. I’m not sure how to get back into my life and become more active since I’m still recuperating. Definetly would like any prior experience with this issue. Thanks

I have had acute chest syndrome and I have constant chest pain everyday. I have also had sickle crisis. I would say listen to your body, know when your body has had enough. For me if my chest hurts to bad I will make the decision on that day not to bake or not to exercise because that cause more pain for me. You have do what is best for you so if the pain is to real or bad take a break relax this not easy to do and I know for me it has been hard to do this but realizing that I can't do everything in one day has helped me to effectively see that's OK to step back and take a break from it all because are bodies need rest. Give your body time. Relaxing is calming.

Thanks so much for your reply. I am a very active person and never had any issues with doing my daily activities and duties. I’m a stay at home mom and I run around with my kids to their soccer practices or swimming lessons. I am trying my best to not be as active but still be active. It makes no sense I know but it’s a change since I never had any issues like such with my crisis.

Also can you explain the baking relation with any chest pains? Is it the temperature or the bending down?

Hello, you are so welcome. It is the bending down that bothers my chest. Anytime I bend down or do everyday things like sitting down or working out my chest pain gets worse.

I had a Pulmonary Embolism a few years ago, I was having pains in my legs which i thought was a crisis and it turned out to be a PE. I had a little chest pain but was able to breath I had to be on oxygen, but that's normal when i'm in crisis. At the time i remember feeling really ill and had more sickle pains than anything else. It took a couple of months to recover, but you know your body and will know when your up for doing more. Everyone is different but since having the PE i haven't been breathless, but have had chest pain. I agree with 321Peace21 you learn to know your boundaries and when your body says rest you have to learn to listen. Hope you get better soon

Thanks for your reply. I do be out of breath when doing almost anything even going up and down the stairs. I’m trying hard to not do too much since it’s only been one month but it’s tough and I still haven’t seen my doctor for a follow up.
