My mother is given hipec after 3 years recurrence. Is there any possibility if hipec would be given again if it again recurr ?? What should be the minimum time gap. My mother is also BRCA negative. Will parp inhibitors work for her ?

Hi there,

You’d need to discuss the HIPEC query with your mothers doctor. There was a few articles online yesterday about the results of a new trial , think called PAOLO 1 that showed that adding a drug called olaparib ( ? Lynprazna) to avastin as maintenance can improve progression free survival in non brca patients. Results presented as the ESMO conference in Barcelona yesterday ... I read it with interest because I’m brca negative and currently on avastin for a recurrence. I wish you and your mum all the very best, D

Thanks Dollie.. but doctors are saying avastin is not showing any results.

The best thing is for your mum to discuss it with your oncologist.

Some brca negative women do respond to PARP inhibitors. While your mother may not be a carrier of a BRCA mutation ie have an inherited BRCA mutation, her tumor itself may have a spontaneous mutation that might make it more susceptible to PARP inhibitors. Do you know if her tumor was tested for BRCA mutations in addition to the blood or saliva test that would show inherited mutations?

Hipec is given now after 1st recurrence. My mother is fine now. It took her 20 days to fully recover. Now she's preparing herself for chemo which will start in a week.

Further to my last post , I am brca negative and apparently adding a parp inhibitor such as lynprazna may not benefit me because it is most beneficial to BRCA patients or those who are HRD deficient . Avastin is what I’m still on as maintenance and it seems to be working .
