Hi Mary,

Have you had any biopsies or a formal diagnosis yet? That would be my first question. Whether they know exactly what you have yet.

Have they mentioned chemo at all? If not, you may have a simpler journey ahead.

Saying that, you are new here and this will be a scary time for you. There are many people here who can help you.

You should know more after surgery I would think. And I hope this goes well for you. Make sure you rest well after your operation and do not lift anything heavy. Do you have a support nurse you can also speak to?

Best of luck at this stage and love to you.

Nicky

If you are having a standard surgery, you will be fine I promise. They do good things these days. Just ask plenty of questions and anything you need to know. The speed of recovery will surprise you but make you get plenty of rest and do not do too much xx

You should be getting some rest my dear. Please go and rest. Please do not be scared. It is easy to say I know, as I was terrified. But I had not found this lovely forum and we are all here for you.

It can help to be prepared by writing down a list of questions to ask.

The most important thing is that you understand what the Dr is telling you.

It can help if know what to expect during treatment. You may want to ask questions about any treatment side effects and who can help if you have problems with treatment.

A few questions could be....

What will the treatment be like and how long will it take? Will there be side effects, and what can I do about them?

What is the aim of my treatment?

Can I get a second opinion?

Are there any complementary therapies that might help?

Is there any help or support that I can have at home?

Are there any support groups in my area?

Remember that you can continue to ask your healthcare team questions even after you have left hospital.

My biggest advice is to rest after the op and do not be forced into getting up and walking if you do not feel up to it. They tried to get me up but I did not feel ready. Remember..it is your body and you know best. If you need to wait a day or two, then tell them.

I am thinking of you and wishing you so much luck and love.

You will be absolutely fine and in good hands I promise xxx

Are you asking should you have the surgery? If so I would have it. You will heal and then you will more than likely get 6 rounds of chemo. Then a scan. But the chemo won't come directly after surgery the will wait some weeks and then administer the chemo. Blessings and keep on going.

No surgery Tues. 7th and I was scared not of surgery afterwards my ca125 4000 doc. Says she is going to do a incision up and down so she can see and get all the cancer but nurse told me it appeared to had started on right ovary ..

Are you going in tomorrow? Surgery will bring your ca125 down if they remove it.

I am one year out from Chemo. I have my 1 year check up the day you have surgery. I will be thinking about you. My tumor was 12.4 pounds and the size of a basket ball. Surgery wasn't bad at all. I had Chemo once a week for 18 weeks. Each session was 6-7 hours, but in a lovely setting with a great group of nurses. Just really getting my energy back but feeling fine. I still don't have hair and probably won't. I took taxoter and they are finding out that it's not unusual. Be strong.

mustang93cars profile image
mustang93cars in reply to Jerierhode

Please keep me posted on your check up I no your going to have great results ! Few questions was your ca125 high as well may I ask your age where did your cancer start .. wow you are simply wonderful 😊

Nicky100 profile image
Nicky100 in reply to mustang93cars

My ca125 was nearly 7000. It came right down after surgery and then chemo mopped up the rest

Hi Mary - I'm a Stage 3C ovarian cancer survivor. My initial debulking surgery was Febrary 7th, 2005, 12 years ago to the day of your surgery. My CA125 at the time of my surgery was 6540, obviously not a false positive. The surgery is an important part of the journey and gives your doctors a chance to get all of it that is visible out of you. I started my chemo 10 days later, but not everyone starts that quickly. It depends on a lot of factors. I hope your surgery is scheduled with a gynecologic oncologist. They are the specialists that are trained to do the kind of staging that will give you the best chance at a good prognosis. Keep us posted.

I hope all went well with your surgery. I am a four year survivor, Stage 3C. A week after my surgery we had my daughter's wedding shower in our apartment and four weeks later I was dancing pain free at the wedding. Recovering from the surgery is the easy part! Chemo is tougher but well worth it!

Remember, you are not a statistic. Everyone is different, heals differently. I really believe a positive attitude is important. Keep believing that you will be in that percentage of survivors.

Heal well! Wishing you good luck as you start on this journey.

Hi Mary,

I had been terrified about chemo, but...once you get started, you will get into a routine and much of the fear of the unknown will vanish. The first 2-3 weeks will be the test of how you feel and you will have days where you feel tired, some days that you might feel a bit fluey and some days that you will be OK! The day after my first chemo I went to a party and went away for the weekend, so you really can keep doing things. But bear in mind steroids on the day will give you a false boost, so do not try and run a marathon! I felt like I could. The thing to do is rest plenty. And drink masses of water to flush out all the nasties. They have good medication nowadays to deal with nausea etc. I hardly felt sick at all. Just keep a strict eye on your temperature, as a raised temperature can mean an infection, so keep watch on that. Lots of love and stay in touch xxx

Thank you so much .... It really means alot to me to talk with someone that really knows .. again thank you so much and just simply thank you from the bottom to top of my heart

Wonderful news to hear about your surgery. Sounds as tho you were optimally debulked (all known malignancies were removed). Chemo will be the next battle--I also opted for a strong chemo. I was 3C high grade serous. God luck and keep us posted when you start chemo and how you are doing. There are good meds now for nausea and other side effects. Ask your doctor for them! You want to be as comfortable as possible.

She said the only side effect would be my hands and feet stay cold , she also said I would not get sick but I donno but I will definitely ask again I will do chemo four to six months . And I will keep n touch . Thank you so much for all and any information you have offered and gave ..

Do you know which chemo you will be having? Once you get started it goes fast. Drink drink drink lots of water to flush it out of your system.

I finished 18 weeks of chemo last October in 20 weeks. Delayed due to low blood counts. I am stage 3b, currently NED. Please keep us posted! You are in our thoughts and prayers!
