Hello, I started Abraxane two weeks ago and I chose to have a try with cold capping.
I was hopeful to preserve my hair, but this morning I started to lose a small quantity.
I read many cancer patients have good results with this practice and some lose only about 30%-50% of their hair. My hair is quite thick and I had a lot of expectations!
Did anyone experience cold capping? And if so, did hair fall only at the beginning of chemo treatments or was a slow process?
Any experience is highly appreciated .
Hugs 🤗

I used the cold cap with Taxol and whilst I did loose hair - not a lot. I did have extensions to fill out the remainder which lasted a few months. Then it sort went like a monk with hair around the outside and short in the centre. Unsure why. However what it did do, was protect the hair follicle so once treatment had finished it bounced back. I would stick with it, not a perfect option but in the long run a better one. Good luck x
I’m also doing cold capping (taxol/carboplatin every 3 weeks) and wondering if I’ll have success. Could you tell me if you had the taxol every 3 weeks or was it weekly?
hi there. I coldcapped throughout iv chemo in 2016 without hair loss (adrimyacin / cytoxan for 6 weeks ; taxol and carboplatinum for 15 weeks). It worked for me, although it added a tremendous amount of time in the chair. My nurse was adamant about getting the hair very wet and making sure no air bubbles were present to create the best seal. It was mildly uncomfortable,(think tight bathing cap) but I got used to it and stayed motivated as the weeks progressed.
I think that concern is more about cancer cells hiding in hair bulb. That’s what a friend of mine was told by her oncologist and she didn’t use a cap during her chemo treatments. But she was stage 2.. I’m stage 4 and I’m sure that there’s a lot of cancer cells circulating in my body. A few of them in hair bulbs won’t make a difference I think.
