Kyphoplasty?

Has anyone had this done? I’m having severe back pain and can only stand or walk for about 5-10 min max and have to sit. It’s really bad when I sleep. I’m going to the dr Tuesday to see if I’m a candidate. I’m on Ibrance 125 and anastrozole. Any help I would be grateful. I have read about it and I’m a little nervous.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

i had a kyphoplasty to my L3 lumbar. I was in alot of pain which was remedied by the procedure. It was well worth it.

thanks I’ve never been in this much pain. I’ve had arthritis since I was 19, that was a piece of cake compared to this! My best to you?

Hi Sharon,

I had a metastatic breast cancer tumor removed and kyphoplasty done on my L3 vertebra, along with Arthrodesis (fusion of vertebrae over a joint space) & Laminectomy (enlargement of the the spinal canal to relieve pressure) on L2-3 & L3-4 vertebrae.

The tumor had caused an L3 stress fracture and the pain was REALLY bad for a month before the operation… wouldn’t have made it with out my dear husband there to help me help me hobble to the bathroom.

My surgeon was wonderful. There was a good bit of pain for about a week after the operation but NOTHING like what I had experienced prior to. I wore a back brace when I was sitting or standing/moving for about 6 weeks and then slowly weaned off of it. I’m pretty active so it was frustrating having to be patient but physical therapy helped and now that I’m about 5 months out I feel nothing but THANKFUL!

I don’t know your particular situation but I empathize with your pain.. definitely find a good surgeon, discuss your options & don't be nervous!

Best to you

I went to see a orthopedic surgeon who does these things and wounds red if it could be done before all the pain and suffering but he said no. He only does it on cases of PAIN etc. or when they are in there operating any ways.

thanks! I’m in so much pain I’d do anything at this point. I’m not sure if this pain is worse than the cancer would be. My lymph nodes are clear as they weren’t before and the Mets are gone in my spine and the tumor is shrunk to less than 2cm but this pain I’m not sure was worth it all?

Even lymph nodes clear? Thst all sounds good- what is the pain from? Compression fracture? Tumor pressing on nerves? I have had constant discomfort but not severe pain… and really fear pain… I know it is coming. I had bad falls twice and managed not to break anything and recovered back to normal. I hope you get some relief soon as I can’t imagine living in constant pain. I imagine The only good thing is that it pushes you to have the surgery rather than waffle about should you have it or not.

Hello,

I have a compression fracture on T5. I've had it for a year. A year ago it was causing me huge pain, I could barely move and ended up in hospital. I haven't had an operation but I am on long-acting morphine which really helps control the pain and it's just a little ache now.

I'm also on Zometa.

They mentioned fusing vertebrae but not kyphoplasty so I'm off to look that up... For the moment I am happy on my pain meds though.

You've had some great feedback from others and it sounds like you should go for it!

All the best

Lucy

MBC was diagnosed as I started having sharp pain in right shoulder which I attributed to muscle strain. It was actually cancer in the T6-T7 area. Radiation oncologist suggested kyphoplasty due to fragility of vertebrae. Procedure performed followed by 10 radiation sessions. Wonderful! Pain gone for 4 years. Seems to be wanting to return now but that's the nature of the disease. Hope you do well with whatever treatment you and doctor decide.

I had two sessions of radiation and it was all gone,. I’m just beside myself with this pain. I can’t do anything and this is not living. My best to you!
