Thoracic MRI Showed Focal Opacity

Hi All

I’m on Ibrance and Letrozole I just had a thoracic spine MRI it says focal opacity lower lung which is not fully characterized on this exam. 1.6x1.4cm- I had numbness in my back in my bra line area. I also get a sharp pain when I move on the right side flank by side and back that radiates to under my breast.

Has anyone else had this? Have onc appointment tomorrow but I read scan .. bad idea!!

UPDATE: Saw the onc. Said nothing to worry about. The CT from Mayo 6 days prior showed nothing. This could be a deep breath, could be a slight infection. But an MRI is not the ideal for lung. The MRI was for my Thoracic spine. So for right now, I’ll just go with that.

Thank you all for you kind responses

Hi: I like to read the scan reports before I see the doctor because then I can ask any pertinent questions. Everyone makes their own decision regarding this. I am now on Verzenio (a sister drug to Ibrance). I t proably has stopped working but we don't know for sure until we see the doctor.

Cheers, June S.

I agree with 8576. I find that it is helpful for me to see the results of the scan before meeting with the doctor. Then, the consultation is further along. As they say, "Knowledge is power". We on this forum provide so much power to each other by sharing our knowledge.

My thoughts and good wishes are with you, today. I hope that the oncologist is able to tell you exactly what is going on in your body and what the plan is going forward. We are with you in spirit.

Greetings DDIL1, I am perhaps one of the most unlearned on this form so I can't offer any advice. However I can pray for you and send you virtual hugs. Be at peace fellow warrior.

Hi, you’ll likely need to have CT scan to further characterize the opacity in the lung. So try not to worry if possible.

I too have tingling, burning and shooting pain in the back and chest at the bra line. Can’t get a clear answer, but it’s most likely related to the nerve compression at the thoracic level.

Did your MRI indicated any thing else beside finding in the lung?

Sending you good thoughts

i have lung opacity, but they feel it was due to my radiation, which was right nearby. As I'm far from an elite athlete, it has not caused any discomfort.

I wish you the best for your appointment tomorrow. For me, it's best to never read scans. I'm too chicken! Lol. I always wait for my onc to explain them.

suggest you go to your appointment with someone you trust to support you and can be a good listener. Remember you dont have to make decisions at this visit you can take in the information, ask questions, go home and think, feel, and pray over everything, ask more questions if you need to, email your doc. Wishing you the very best.

I'm one of the few who developed ILD (interstitial lung disease) most likely caused by a few cycles of Ibrance. It looks like that on scans, but other things can cause that appearance on scans, too. I guess you've probably seen your onc by now. ILD causes me to get out of breath easily. Earlier this week, just walking from the waiting room to exam room at the podiatrist's left me out of breath. But I developed the ILD in 2016 and am still here, so it's not among the things I consider the "worst." I hope your appt went well and left you with a sense that there's a hopeful plan in place for your treatment.

I agree with what others have said about having test results before appts helps us as it gives us time to digest whatever news there is and to think about what you want to ask your onc, or other docs. And having another, trusted person there too gives a better chance of going over everything that was discussed. The old two heads are better than one concept. I take notes at appts, also usually go in with a written list of questions. My memory is not what it used to be!
