Fall/ crash injury may cause false pos scans

Hello lovely ladies- recently been doing great! Even went ebiking 16 miles with my new friend from here! … the lovely Martha’s Vineyard came to my house! So nice to catch up in person with Simone who has MBC.

Today I am writing because I just had a bad fall . Ouch! Sore all over but no obvious breaks-Thank God!

I had my reg PET scan scheduled but now postponed due to to scan possibly lighting up from the inflammation of the fall. If you have an injury it can make your scans light up from the inflammation. I just wanted to make everyone aware of that.

I completely agree. I took a fall tripping over the dog walking it. My pelvic bone and wrist bone lit up on the scan 2 weeks later and my onc wanted to put me on Xgeva shots. I did for a month and then 3 months later the next scan said no signs :-)

Hoorah to the ebike ride Betty. You obviously have good strong bones.

That is very interesting and helpful to know about the scans.

Hope you recover quickly.

First off.. glad your ok! I have an e-bike and they can go pretty fast! Thank you for sharing that information. I had no idea that things could light up. I typically will only get the FES Pet or MRI/CT due to being lobular but I bet it’s similar. Sounds like your having a nice time with your MBC friend. Enjoy

The nuclear PET dr agreed that I was right to postpone as the inflammation lights up.

Dear BettyI m so sorry to hear about your fall and I hope that you are not to sore r shaken up.Falls can be upsettng..

Your information is very interesting, doàes it apply to injuries or falls sustained sometime previously.? I have wondered about this or some time as I have MBC with bone lesions of my spine and ribs. These are all areas which which were injured many years ago in a serious car injury ànd more recently in falls which damaged ribs, and spine yet again

Is it possible that these bone lesions could be causing scans to show these lesions as cancerous? I hope that your next scan shows o further problems

Re your previous falls… I am not sure but I googled and found this in a study as I had concerns after my previous car crash made my CT scan light up in liver and they dx soreness to liver…so I called nuclear med to ask if my new fsll might be a concern. They asked the Dr and he said yes wait until the inflammation clears up… I took a pic of the study but I don’t remember where it came from. “It is important to remember that a PET scan

can show many things. The scans can't tell

the difference between activity due to a

tumor and activity due to non-cancerous

processes, such as inflammation or

infection.”

Yessss We thank GOD you didn't break any bones. I hope pray your soreness will be gone ASAP, and you can get back on your e-bike :) .My friend loves his e-bike. He say's if he travels too far from home, he can depend on the electric motor to get him back. I am glad you enjoyed the outing with your friend😇

I am better already! And the ebike is such a blessing. I never get so far away that the power runs out. So fun! And meeting and cycling with Pam who also has MBC was a real comfort
