I have just found out I have the PALB2 mutation? It can be inherited from either Dad or Mom. My daughter has it too. Anyone know something about this?

The PALB2 gene mutation
Hello. I was tested for genes as my sister and aunt have also had BC. I was negative across the 3 genes they look for in the UK.
From what I was told, if I had got the PALB2 gene then there would be a 40% chance of my developing further breast cancer. However that 40% is across the whole of my life, some of which I have already lived through. Another consideration is that as my current treatment involves hormone reducing therapy, this would reduce the risk further. I was told that if I was very concerned then I could consider a total mastectomy, taking away all breast tissue.
I think you (and your daughter) need to seek professional advice and counselling regarding this especially as you are each looking at it from different ends of the spectrum - you are already undergoing treatment and, presumably regular screening; whereas you daughter (without knowing her age) may not have starting having mammograms yet?
I hope you are able to find the right advice for you both. Best wishes, Wendy
I have The Gene inherited from my dads side. Unfortunately my children have not been tested yet ! They are adults and have chosen to wait. Cancer has been in our family for a long time. I never thought I would get it again after 10 yrs. I am shocked that it’s not curable but I’ve accepted it. I do fear for my 3 children but especially my grandchildren ! Don’t take it lightly ! It’s quite serious that’s one thing I didn’t realize ! Jane
