Forgetfull
Hi Barb! I’m on my 12th cycle of Ibrance and Arimidex and my level of forgetfulness has increased exponentially over the year. I’m 64 so I was experiencing the age-related “forgot why I’d gone into a room” level of forgetfulness before my diagnosis. However I now find it very difficult to remember and concentrate. This has led to some spectacular failures while cooking in particular! I’m now developing techniques to help with this by managing my tasks through using detailed lists. I also now get all my recipe ingredients out before I start cooking and check and recheck them as I work through the recipe. The saddest part for me is that it’s more difficult to recall where I’ve been and what I’ve done in the past. We’ve traveled all over the world and it’s becoming more difficult to recall the memories. Looking at photos help but it’s frustrating no longer having the recall I once had.
Thankyou for your support
Hi. I’ve been on Ibrance and faslodex for two and a half years and I’ve become really forgetful. The hardest thing is trying to recall an everyday word. It’s very frustrating. But I guess it’s better than the alternative. ❤️
I am too! Hard doing crossword puzzles and remembering names! As long as the Ibrance/ letrozole is working I don’t care. I write everything down. I just celebrated my 74th and plan on celebrating my 80th! Happy New Year.
I'm not on the drugs you're on but I've definitely got deteriorating memory. Don't worry, you're not alone
Barb5,
Hello,
I am on Verzenio 150 mg and anastrozole, and have trouble concentrating, and am 61. I have noticed that sometimes I concentrate SO HARD at remembering something, but it still escapes me. It is CRAZY.
Best,
Colleen
My kids regularly tell me I’m senile. I forget everything! And am not yet 60🙄😳
We are older than you, but my husband and I share your perplexity as we strive valiently to help each other recall very common names for things, as well as names for friends, etc.
I don't know if the following will encourage you, or discourage you (at least you will know that we both have lots of company)...
According to a British study of civil servants reported in The Guardian in January, 2012, " the brain begins to lose sharpness of memory and powers of reasoning and understanding not from 60 as previously thought, but from as early as 45, scientists say".
This was a large ten-year study of more than 7,000 civil servants aged between 45 and 70. "The 5,000 men and 2,000 women agreed to undergo verbal and written tests on three occasions over a 10-year period for what is called the Whitehall II study."
The researchers were led by Archana Singh-Manoux from the Centre for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health in France and University College London in the UK. "Over the decade, there was a 3.6% decline in the mental reasoning of men and of women aged 45 to 49. The process appeared to have speeded up in the older age groups. Men aged 65 to 70 have a decline of 9.6% while women fared a little better, at 7.4%."
If you are interested, I'll try to locate a follow-up study or a related study on cancer patients.
Happy New Year,
Cindy
I'm 47 and also on Verzenio and Faslodex. My memory is terrible, both for recent and remote events. I also get all of my ingredients out when cooking or baking and check 2 or 3 times to make sure I got everything. Part of it for me may be due to sudden menopause due to meds at 41.
