I am sorry about your sister's pain. First of all, I wanted to mention that my oncologist substituted Faslodex injections for Letrozole, which she said had stopped working. Ibrance remained in place. I don't know how you determine which med stops working when you are taking two or more. Also, I have had two sessions of the Faslodex injections (the second one only yesterday) and I had no pain. Faslodex should not cause such pain.
They know it was the hormone manipulation drug that stopped working, e.g the aromatase inhibitor or the tamoxifen or the faslodex because they are the ones holding the cancer at bay- the Ibrance doesn't directly treat the cancer cells, it makes it more difficult for them to mutate and get resistant to the hormone manipulation drugs. Good luck ♡
I have had my 3 loading shots and am now due monthly ones starting next week. So far I have not experienced such pain. I do agree that Faslodex should not cause such pain too!
Wishing her well soon!
Weirdly my first two lots were bad too but then after I got nurses to do it super slow and not so far to my side, way way better. Getting one today and no nerves this time 😊
Hi Ntash01
I’m in the uk. I’ve been on ibrance and letrozole since July 2018 and I was feeling well but the onco noticed a few more spots on my liver and has switched me to faslodex. Three lots every two weeks then every month.
I had it last Thursday and I still feel really tired and sickly - just can’t pick myself up. Do you think it will just wear off in time and it s cos it’s the first lot??
Anyone who has faslodex ? Big hugs to all of you
Hi KateBush
I’m so sorry to hear you’re not feeling good on Faslodex. I felt awful after the first shot but I also had Zometa on the same day, since then I’ve not felt out of sorts much (2nd & 3rd loading shots). I think I felt awful on day 1 because of zometa, but it did feel as if I had a butt enhancement, that was more uncomfortable and a little tender. It’s a new treatment and our bodies need time to adjust, and if your anything like me - you’re probably upset and peed off at having to change meds. Took me right back to my negative place!
This week I’m due my first monthly shots and praying I feel the same. I’m working and maybe being busy is a good thing. If you can try and go for a walk to help the thick liquid distribute on day 1… that may help?
Hope do hope you feel better soon, just think… no more pills - 2 butt shots a month and we’re good to go.

It may be that the nurse was inexperienced and hit a nerve. I get those shots every month; they are supposed to be intramuscular, and on some occasions they've been so painless that I am concerned the nurse just hit the fat zone, not the muscles. You should speak to an experienced nurse and explain any pre-existing conditions, like surgery or pain in the area before. You can talk over what position you wish to be in when you get the shot--some women stand, some lie on their sides. I lie on my stomach, except when I have one particular nurse who says she can only do the shot when the patient's on their side.
Fear is also very important with cancer and other illnesses. If the shot and the reasons for it are thoroughly explained, things may get easier.
I agree that they should be painless. I am at MSK and highly recommend them. But agree this may be someone not experienced. I have them go far right or far left, and it really is painless. Last time did not even realize that they were done. I stand and raise my foot on the side where they give the shot.
Very sorry to hear that your sister was in such pain. Hopefully, she is feeling better now. You said that Ibrance stopped working. Is she now only receiving Faslodex? I’d encourage her to join this board. I found it very informative and supportive.
I got Fulvestrant/faslodex injections for about 2 years--some have been on it much longer. They should inject into the "ventrogluteal" muscle--it is high up near the hip--to avoid hitting the sciatic nerve. I never experienced pain on injection--but sometimes pains in the few days after injection. In one incidence the cancer center purchased a new generic brand of Fulvestrant--most do not purchase the brand name of Faslodex. Numerous patients at the clinic also reacted to this particular generic brand. I ended up talking to the pharmacist about what brands I had been getting--and asked for one that I could see I had tolerated. So that is another thing to consider down the road--but this usually does not happen at the first injection. Also UTI's are common with Fulvestrant so drinking lots of water before and after injection is important. Best to you!
I found the Fulvestrant injections uncomfortable from the get-go, but when my Nurse hit my Sciatic nerve, I was done with them! Maybe that’s what happened to your Sister?
Hi brave ones it was a kidney stone went to emergency again did an mri gave her some special medicine for it come out maybe the shots gave her that reaction
