I am slightly nervous about this but I am feeling better physically than I have for month & months . I am recouping from 5 radiation treatments to my neck and throat area . And frankly I would like to have a Christmas with no side effects . Am I being silly / stupid ? I can’t see how 4 weeks is going to make a huge difference in the big picture when I am feeling good.
I took over a month off all meds due to a surgery and surprisingly suffered no I'll affects. Good luck with your choices be sure to get an ok from your oncologist first.
That is good to know about you not suffering any ill affects . But sorry you had to have surgery . I hope the surgery went well . My oncologist is a real go getter and would like me to start IV chemo right away . I mentally feel I need a break from side effects and go back at it in the New Year .
You know your body best. I requested to stay on a medication that 'wasn't working' for an extra 3 months because I wanted to give it longer and I was moving house. My request was granted. I am also taking a month off for surgery to have my implant changed because it is causing discomfort. I value feeling good for whatever time I have.
I've always done at least a 2 week "wash out" between med changes. One was 4 weeks because of some travel plans. I just did a wash out over Thanksgiving before starting on Piqray and it was such a nice break. I think we sometimes just need that mental and emotional time-out to have a little time feeling normal before we hit it again! Prayers and very best wishes to you with your new treatment! ~Anita
Hi Luann,I’ve been on Ibrance & Faslodex for 2yrs now with a wonderful oncologist who always tells me this is a marathon not a sprint. That said, I do know there are many beautiful ladies on here where their situation does feel more like a scary sprint ☹️ I feel blessed to still be at marathon level and my doctor gives me breaks from Ibrance to recoup my system. I’m taking December off because I want to enjoy all the joy of this month with my family. We did the same thing last December and my January tumor markers were lower. Maybe our bodies need a break to fight things naturally if they can. Probably not everyone’s circumstance so again feel very thankful. Check with your oncologist and if you’re given a break, ENJOY EVERY MOMENT ❤️❤️❤️
Blessings to you,
Alicia
I am so happy that you got to have a Christmas break and again for this year . It looks like I my have a port put in and a CT scan , but IV chemo will wait for the new year . I am looking forward to this .
I have been on Ibrance and Arimidex since July 2019. The past few months I have been feeling very fatigued. In Sept when I told my oncologist this, she suggested I take a month off which I did then started back up again on a lower dose of 75 mags. just yesterday I was given results of scans after this vacation from Ibrance. There was no progression which was good news. I will be staying on 75 mgs for now. I feel much less fatigued. You are not silly for wanting time off from side effects and feeling less than wonderful. A good oncologist will watch carefully and let you know if this is in your best interest. As my doctor says, the whole idea of treatment is to give a good quality of life. Taking a vacation probably will do you good. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep us posted. -Madlyn
Love this! This is a doctor who truly LISTENS and cares for your needs and not just your cancer. I do believe we do better when WE feel comfortable and have a sense of control too. Why shouldn't we have a little 'holiday'!
Luann, it might do well to talk to your onc about taking a break...but I totally understand your desire to do this. Good luck with your decision and your new treatment.
Thank you Marianne , I have made my decision. I will be back on the IV chemo train after Christmas .
