Morning everyone, I’m currently under an oncologist at QE Birmingham but have bought a cottage in Cornwall, does anyone have treatment at Plymouth Hospital or Truro. My Onco is recommending a gentleman at Truro at the moment but Plymouth is closer. It’s all change it’s making me a little nervous! 😬😬

Moving house, which hospital and oncologist.
Hi Blakeysangel, sorry I can’t comment on oncologists in that part of the world but wanted to say how wonderful it is that you are moving to such a lovely part of the UK. I also do like Birmingham and pre-Covid I visited our besties there regularly, and my daughter has just started at the University of Birmingham. Although the move itself is probably a bit stressful I hope it will be everything you hope for once you have settled in. Good luck with the move and finding a good oncologist. xx
Hi Blakey,
Congratulations on your move! I must admit that if I were to move again Cornwall would be high up on my list of places to go! I love it there. Could you research both hospitals and see what would be the better fit for you? I would also be inclined to go with the hospital that's closer, but that may not be the best option. Can you go visit Plymouth and Truro hospitals and then decide what to do for the best? It's a hard decision to make, but I really understand wanting to stay close to home and not having to travel far to go to hospital. Mine is a 30 minute drive, which suits me. I wouldn't want to be too far away.

Hi,
I’ve driven passed both hospitals, won’t go in because of covid so being guided by my oncologist now. He says the oncologist at Truro is one of the best, I trust his judgement, it hard to get details on the oncologists at both hospitals, they need trip advisor like reviews on them 😂😂.
Only 20 mins from hospital at the moment so spoilt really.
I know what you mean! Tripadvisor reviews on oncologists would be great! Can you imagine?! The thought of going from a short drive to a longer commute doesn't sit well with me either, but if the other hospital that your oncologist mentioned comes highly recommended it might be worth looking into it some more.

I was under the Dereford hospital in 2013 for breast cancer. They were brilliant. As it’s a naval hospital you do see top Consultants. I lived in Looe and it was quite a journey but I did it. 50 mile round trip and the bridge to pay for.
I’m now in Liverpool and the hospital here is brilliant also. It’s a new Cancer Hospital. I now have MBC and couldn’t have a better team looking after me.
I hope you are seen in Plymouth. There unit on the top floor was lovely. Comfy and cosy. I don’t know much about the hospital in Truro other than it’s huge.
Best wishes with the move
Cheryl
That’s great information, thanks. Plymouth will only be a 25 min drive. I’ve had MBC since June 2018 and BC since 2015. The QE at Birmingham have been great especially since my Stage 4 diagnosis. Will miss the people there, you know your there too often when they all know you by your first name even the receptionist! 😀😀😀
