Ct scan
Hi Kiera49,
I don't know if this is the right answer, but all of my scans are referred to as "staging" scans. I've interpreted this to mean that they are used in general to determine the "stage" of the cancer, e.g. state I, II, III, and IV, plus I think there are sub-stages, e.g. when initially diagnosed I was stage IIc/IIIa, meaning on the border of the two, since one of criteria between II and III was tumor size and mine was difficult to measure/on the cusp.
So, in my opinion, coming from a place of mostly ignorance (!), I think they kind of mean the same thing, except that "staging" refers specifically to measure the status of the cancer as opposed to other purposes for CT's.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will respond!
Lynn
Thanks they have never told me what stage I am but guessing its stage iv as cant be cured, I've always had ct chest, abdomen and pelvis before.
Hmmm....So they're doing only chest this time? I would wonder why....I recall you posting recently about back pain, I think...Perhaps they want to take a look about that, specifically?
Good luck with it...Please do let us know how it goes...
What is a staging CT scan?
A CT scan takes pictures of the inside of the body using x-rays taken from different angles. ... A total body CT scan generally includes at least the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. This is often used for cancer staging. One risk of this test is radiation exposure, especially for children.
