Mary’s Place by the Sea

I just returned from a wonderful weekend at Mary’s Place by the Sea. A place for women with cancer to heal, emotionally, physically, spiritually. Its a beautiful 10 bedroom home each with its own bath. A few houses away from the ocean. The volunteers provide, massages, yoga, delicious meals and so much more. Your two night stay is completely FREE of charge! I urge my fellow MSBC friends to go! Located in Ocean Grove NJ. If you wanted to stay longer there’s a wonderful bed and breakfast (Carriage House) a street over that I utilized and the owner couldn’t have been more accommodating. It was just myself and she made me the most delicious breakfast ever. We sat and talked until it was time for me to walk over and “check in” at Mary’s Place. All in all it was the most peaceful I’ve felt since my diagnosis.

Thank you for sharing about your experience at Mary's by the Sea! I have been thinking of going since you mentioned you were going in a previous post. I would love to hear more details. I am thinking it would be great to go when the weather gets a little warmer to enjoy the beach. Is there a waiting list and did you get your first choice of dates you wanted to reserve?

I believe you can let them know when you’d like to visit. Check out their website and look at the application. It’s a great place and you will find peace and comraderie there.

I think the summmer is filled up as everyone wants the beach in the summer. Best to call and give them the dates you’re available. I plan on returning in the fall.

Been there also. Amazing place, people and location.

Just wondering, do they have a structured schedule where all the visitors do things together? Also, I see on the website that dinner is not included...are there places within walking distance to eat? I am looking into how to get there by train from NYC.

When I was there you signed up for what interests you. It was a really small group so we all shared several activities. You are together for meals. It is a small cute town with a few local restaurants but no deli or grocery store in town. Mary’s Place can give you more specific info about dinner options. It’s a nice quiet beach off season and a low key town in season. You’ll love it.

Hi Bluebird77, This Rocky Mountain lass is very interested in this place also. However, I'll probably be healing for 6+ weeks from surgery to remove my liver tumors. Perhaps a Fall trip could be managed for me.

It would be great to meet up with METS ladies on here!

Of course, we all have our health care to work with, before a trip. Maybe it's just a pipedream. Just saying....fun!

God's Blessings for healing and treatment s to do their jobs!

Kate, I agree that would be great if some of us could meet at Mary's place! It sounds like such a wonderful place. When is your surgery scheduled? Prayers for healing coming your way.

I am up for meeting up with group members. A fall trip sounds lovely. Who is interested? They take 9 ladies at a time. For those that have a longer distance (it’s only a two night stay) there are quaint bed and breakfasts there I could recommend.

Thank you for your healing prayers, even though I probably won't be having surgery any time soon. We're still working on getting the right dosage of Ibrance for now. (My WBC count went too low, 2.6 on the 125mg dose. However, I stayed on the Letrozole.) I started the 75mg dose on March 21 and today my WBC was at 8.2. I'm so tickled and thankful, bc I'm usually neutropenic. My tumor markers went up while I was off the Ibrance, too, so I was getting rather worried. Sorry I'm so long-winded. I'll see my Oncologist next week and will know more after that.

BTW, I'm also taking a supplement to boost my immune system. It's called Super Colostrum (500mg) made by NOW. I got it on Amazon. I'm hoping that it's also helping to keep my counts up.

Healing prayers and a multitude of God's richest Blessings for every one of our warriors!

Yes great shops and restaurants a very short walk away. Actually on the same street. They have structured groups such as, group therapy, yoga classes, cooking, if you’re interested. You can participate or not. It’s whatever you want. Some girls took a nap or went for a walk on the beach. It’s your time.

Keep me posted!

Thanks for sharing. I have never heard of it and definitely will check it out. Glad you found some peace. It's nice to get away from the day to day world of treating our disease.

For a couple of decades, Ocean Grove has been my beach town. So peaceful. Mary's is so beautiful. Watch their video. And get in touch , make a plan. There's a deli/ market a couple blocks over. Maybe closed during the winter.

Hope you can make it. If you need to stay longer (Mary’s Place is only a two night stay) there are so many B&B’s. The Carriage House was superb!
