i also had stage 1A and Grade 2 in one breast. ER +, HER2 - My oncotype was low enough so I did not need chemo or radiation. My nodes were clear. I had a mastectomy on the right breast, and 6 wks later elected to do the left one as well. My right breast had two unrelated spots, therefore mastectomy was appropriate. The expanders were uncomfortable but not unbearable. New breasts “installed” in Feb 2021, so coming up on two years in a couple of weeks. They are silicone implants and my surgeon suggested implant size that would match my body structure. I have had to get used to larger boobs, but clothes do fit better. They were placed under the muscle. I did not want to have a d flap which involves much more extensive surgery. It does take time to recover in terms of nerve regeneration. Some of the breast has no feeling. I had nipple sparing surgery so esthetically they look fine. I am on an AI, so some joint discomfort but I try to stay active by going to the gym and walking when it’s not too cold. I work two days/wk after retiring from a full time job. It’s important to me to keep my body and brain active. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. I am in the US, and not sure if you are here as well.

Hi I was wondering why they are having you do chemo? I will be having a lumpectomy followed by radiation on Aug 28,2023 They will also check the lymph nodes. I have invasive lobular carcinoma Grade 2, and i am 56. I just see so many getting a mastectomy as opposed to a lumpectomy I'm just curious of the reasoning for this.? and what people consider when making this decision. I hope I am making the right decision.

I had two separate sites on one breast. Lumpectomy was not an option for me. Everyone’s breast cancer is different. I did my research and asked a lot of questions. And I trusted my MD.

Hi, I had very similar diagnosis in 2018. Single surgery with the flap (I hate the sound of that - prefer "tissue transfer") and then 12 weeks of chemo. Almost to my fourth year with Anastrozole. All good now, thank God. Yeah, the effected breast is still kind of numb but no pain. I have all my energy and still work full time. Good luck to you. It's a scary time but you'll get through it.
