If you are 1 year out from your breast cancer diagnosis, you are eligible to be a helpline volunteer for the SHARE Breast Cancer Helpline. If interested, please message me and I can let you know how to help other women with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Hello and thanks for your interest in becoming a volunteer. The requirements include a 3 session training class. The first is to learn about our organization and what to expect as a helpline volunteer. The second is what we call Breast Cancer 101 and it's really everything you ever wanted to learn about Breast Cancer. The first 2 sessions are 2 hours in length. the third is only 1 hour and it teaches how to enter the calls into our database. We typically do the 3 sessions in 3 consecutive weeks. Once you complete the classes, we team you up with a mentor volunteer and you get to listen in on their calls. We usually do this a few times. then we have the mentor listen in on you answering calls so they can help you through the calls until you feel comfortable at which time we then schedule you for a shift. There is no requirement for the amount of shifts or hours you need to complete. Usually people pick a shift and do the same one each week, but we do have others who fill in when they can. There are 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week for 365 days a year. The shifts are 9:30-1:30, 1:30-5:30 and 5:30-9:00 all EST. I try to hold training each month and will most likely be setting up a training for June. If you are still interested, please send me an email with your name and contact info to dsemler@sharecancersupport.org. Once again, thank you for your interest and I hope to hear from you!!

Thank you

Dale

That is a shame as I am in the UK but if ever you are able to establish a similar programme here I’d like to be considered

Hello. I am interested in becoming a volunteer. I was diagnosed in December 2021 (Stage 1 HER2+. Had Chemo and radiation and now Herceptin for next 5 months and Anastrozole for 5 yrs), so hasn't been a year yet but would be interested in training to be able to jump on it in the new year
