Sexual health plays a crucial part in the life of every man, regardless of his civil status, sexual orientation or age. It also forms the basis of a healthy relationship and plays a vital role in the quality of life for men. In recent times though, men have had to face sexual problems with increasing regularity, which greatly impacts their lives. The majority of these sexual problems can be treated easily, which is why it’s important that men can recognize the symptoms and seek help.

Some sexual problems may be caused by underlying medical conditions or even due to psychological problems, which is why they need to be given proper attention and care. So here are the most common sexual problems that men face today as well as their symptoms and cures.

Premature ejaculation

This condition is extremely common amongst men of all ages today, and statistics show that 1 in 3 men experience this problem in their lives. Premature ejaculation is a condition that causes men to orgasm sooner than they want to, and it’s a condition that can affect any man. The condition can be caused by several issues, such as:

•    Infection of the urethra or prostrate

•    Being very stimulated or aroused

•    Worrying about ejaculating early

•    Low level of certain brain chemicals

•    Emotional problems like anxiety or guilt

If you experience premature ejaculation on a regular basis, it’s recommended that you discuss the problem with your doctor because the condition can be easily cured. There are several treatments and techniques for premature ejaculation, which include stopping and starting sexual stimulation, and using different creams and condoms to tone down the excitement of sexual intercourse.

Counseling sessions or talking to a therapist can also help in overcoming premature ejaculation.

Most importantly you need to understand how your current thoughts and the resulting actions are impacting your sexual performance.

Living with premature ejaculation can be highly depressing, which is why it’s recommended that you communicate openly with your partner in order to alleviate the stress and tension in your relationship.

Erection problems

Many men have problems in maintaining their erections, which is also known as erectile dysfunction and may also be referred to, as impotence in men. It’s an extremely common sexual dysfunction amongst men and there are currently 40 million men of all ages in the U.S. who are affected by it.

Erectile dysfunction can lead to sadness, anger, frustration and low self-esteem in men. However, there are numerous treatments that can treat sexual dysfunction.

Here are the possible causes of ED:

•    Emotional factors like depression or stress

•    Unhealthy habits like overeating, smoking drinking alcohol and lack of exercise

•    Low testosterone levels

•    Nerve damage due to diabetes

•    High blood pressure

•    High cholesterol

•    Clogged blood vessels

•    A partner who shows a lack of sexual interest

•    Worrying about losing erection hardness

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that’s common amongst older men, but in recent times, men in their 20s have also reported this sexual problem as well. The good news is that ED can be treated. Visit your doctor to ensure there aren’t any underlying medical conditions as mentioned above. There are a number of different techniques and treatments for erectile dysfunction.

Lack of sexual desire

A lack of sexual desire, also known as loss of libido, is another common sexual problem faced by men, which can alter their lifestyle dramatically. Men who lead highly stressful or hectic lives may lose their interest in sex, whilst contrasting lifestyles with your partner may also lead to lack of sexual desire. This sexual problem is common among men who are in long-term relationships, and the causes include:

•    Relationship problems

•    Reduction in male hormones

•    Side effects of prescription medication

•    Underlying health condition

•    Worry from other sex problems including premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction

It’s natural to lose some interest in sex as you age – or as your partner becomes uninterested in sex. However, young and healthy men who lose their interest in sex should consult with their physicians in order to seek effective treatment. Counseling and therapy is also recommended for men with this problem.

Low Testosterone

Testosterone is considered to be one of the most vital male hormones, since it affects a man’s mood and body. It’s responsible for maintaining sperm production, muscles, bones, pubic and body hair, and maintaining the sexual drive as well.

The symptoms for low testosterone may include:

•    Weakened bones and loss of muscle strength

•    Softer and smaller testicles

•    Mood problems

•    Problems with concentration and memory

•    Hot flashes

•    Increased breast size

•    Erection problems

•    Lack of interest in sex

This sexual problem can be caused by certain medications, disease or injury, whilst men can also experience a decline in testosterone levels with age. In order to deal with low testosterone, you should consult with your doctor to identify the possible cause and the best possible treatment options for you.

Exercise is a great way to naturally increase testosterone levels.

Conclusion

When evaluating your sexual dysfunction, it’s important to evaluate your psychological, medical and sexual history. Sexual problems can have numerous causes, which is why you should provide accurate information to help your health or medical professional supply you with an effective program to end your problem.

An informative and interesting article, Jacqui. However, one cause not mentioned under the ED section was that of prescription drugs known to affect men in this way. You do mention this in the next Lack of Sexual Desire comments.

Many men have a sexual desire which is frustrated by an ED problem. There is a difference. Just my comments on excellent advice and observations. Thank you for posting.
