Technical question..........

Why is it that we can edit our original posts, but not our replies? That is a pain that we should look into. I guess we would have to contact the web site itself. ;)

Hi there

I think this would be a good observation to share with the HealthUnlocked team as they are always keen to hear user feedback. Please let me know if you would like to contact them yourself or you would like me to do so on behalf of the RLS forum users!

Warm regards

Yes please Daragh, would be better for you to contact them on our behalf... :)

Nothing worse than typing a long comment then find your mistakes after. Its tiresome and you can never remember all you said. Who wants to delete and rewrite it all. :(

Hi all,

HealthUnlocked here. We are completely aware of this issue and are excited to announce that a new version of this platform is coming out in the next couple of months that will include editing of comments AND a lot of other awesome features too!

Anytime though, you as a user are welcome to contact us directly using the Feedback button on the right side of the screen. Dont be shy! ---->

All the best,

Lora S.

Thank you so much!!!!! very much appreciated for your help. I will be happy to use feedback buttons.

Just FYI Nightdancer - since you mentioned spell check - if you use Google Chrome it comes with a spell checker, and well, it's just a great web browser anyway. Hope this helps!

My name is Rosie and I am an administrator for this forum and Vice Chair of RLS UK. The comments posted this evening have not been in the spirit of the forum. As you'll see below, we require people to:

•Be true and correct to the best of your knowledge and experience

•Be in the spirit of the site: to share, inform and support

Please don't do this:

•Name and shame identifiable individuals

•Be abusive, malicious or deliberately misleading

For this reason, I have deleted the string of comments which name individuals.

The comments made are not helpful to people suffering with RLS. We all find life more difficult than those not suffering with the condition and for that reason alone, we need to be as kind, supportive and tolerant of each other as possible. I appreciate that sometimes we annoy each other but please we have over 700 members registered with this site and it is therefore inappropriate for them to read what should be kept between 3 individuals.

For the record, the administrators of this site and all the trustees for RLS UK are volunteers. Most of us have jobs or families or both. We do this because we feel strongly about raising awareness about RLS amongst the medical profession and the general public. We also want to do whatever we can to help and support those suffering with the condition (we are also sufferers ourselves). We are a small charity and we have a long way to go. The HealthUnlocked forum has been a huge success and a good support to many sufferers. We want to do all we can to ensure that it continues to be a useful source of information and support.

The other option is to type a message in Word and spell check it and then copy and paste it onto the forum when you've finished,

You can delete your own posts. So if you want to edit one of your own posts. Select the full text of your post. Type Control C to copy it into the paste buffer. Paste that text into a Word Or Wordpad or Notebook file. Then edit the text in that Word or whichever prgram. on the HealthUnlocked site where you post is that needs editing, select the delete option.

Now, to add your edited text get a text box for an answer or comment, Copy your edited text from Word or whichever program and copy that edited text into the paste buffer and paste it into the HealthUnlocked comment / answer box. Click on Submit button or Answer.

Sounds complicated but really very easy.

in reply toPete-1

that's what i do if a long text onto my email it has a spell checker on lol when i'm done i simply copy and paste to where i want it to be if short text simple read through first before submitting job done............. :)

Strange how a simple idea in the head takes so many words to describe in textual form.

It is really very easy. The whole process can be done in about 1.5 to 2 seconds plus editing time.

Hi Pete....I just looked at your profile and see you are hypnotherapy trained..have you ever used this to help with rls and what we're your results...I've been thinking about giving it a try ....

I've never tried hypnotherapy for RLS. Wouldn't do any harm to try except hypnotherapists don't come cheap so there would be some harm to your wallet.

The other thing I would say is that unless you have used such therapy before and have learned how to allow the hypnotic process to do its stuff without undue distractions then success would be hampered. When first using a hypnotherapistst people can be very resistant sometimes. I feel this is due to anxiety revolving around the expectations of the therapist.

If you do try, be prepared to see a therapist more than once so you can in effect learn how to be hypnotised. If you are one of the lucky ones then such resistance may not come into the process at all anyway.

Also you are best seeing a therapist in person as he can modify his approach to you according to feedback from you in real time. A pre-recorded hypnotc screed can only do the hypnosis one way, it is never tailored just for you.

Please may you let me know how it goes if you give it a try.

Many thanks for that info Pete. I think I might give it a try.mainly to hopefully get some control over rls in my mind when it takes over. Hope you get some sleep !

I have tried hypnotherapy, for many weeks, it didnt help me at all AND it is very expense. I was told by the therapist all what Pete has said in his comment, you HAVE to believe it will work, and show no resistance. I willed for it to work....but it didnt...the therapist said my strong will was interferring..!!!!

Anything is worth a try .....if I thought standing on my bird bath singing the whole of les mis would help there are some nights I would do it! If hypnotherapy could let me get to a place of calm and control when I feel like cutting my wrists it would be well worth it!

in reply tothedragon

tis be true.... anyone would try anything if they hoped it would work even if it meant singing on the bird bath lol just to chill would be good but doubtful it would help my singing....

That is kind of my point. If you feel under any pressure to conform or obey or believe then that pressure amounts to a degree of anxiety and it is that anxiety that that works against any useful work in the therapy room.

Also some people are deliberately resistant. Kind of a pride thing.

All that is required is that you should relax. Its not even required that you should consciously listen to the therapists words, just allow your thoughts to focus inwards, such that you feel rather like you do when daydreaming.

I must say I'm glad that I have not been to see your hypnotherapist.

This type of therapy where you are put into a relaxed frame of mind is sometimes called Mother Hypnosis and is what you will nearly always find in the therapy room. Alternative to this is Father Hypnosis where the hypnotist deliberately says things to make his subject as wound up, as tense and anxious as possible. In this frame of mind a person is very susceptible to suggestion. This readyness, this openness is due to the subconscious mind desperately looking for a way to excape the tense anxiety instilled by the hypnotist. It is this type of thing that si used by stage show hypnotists and is generally frowned upon by the various hypnotherapy professional body's that abound.

That's interesting...didn't know there were different types...my physio has a health practice and has a hypnotist. I trust my physio (cos he's awesome) not to give room space to any one not worth their weight. I know people have surgery under hypnosis as an anaesthetic person...(can't sp the full word!) knew did it. So if that's possible surely it would help us control our symptoms or allow us not to be controlled

All I can say is that without trying hypnotherapy, you will never know if it is a good option for you.
