New rls ideas from my dr.

My dr. is trying to figure out how to get rid of my rls since they are so bad. I am presently taking oxycodone. For some reason I am having bad rls even though The oxycodone helps, I cannot function because the rls is so bad. Now my dr is trying to figure another option for meds. I went off methodone because I didn't like the side effects and it wasn't curing my rls 100%. Maybe I wasn't taking a high enough dose- 12 mg. My dr. has given me other options. #1.Increase oxy by 5mg. I am now taking 35 mg. #2 Long acting oxycodone. Could cause breathing problems. #3 Stay on oxy every 4 hours and add dipyridamole. There are side effects-drop in blood pressure, heart problems. You would have to be monitored in hospital til they figure if it works. #4 I suggested pregabalin. she said that is a possibility but no oxycodone with it.#5Go back on methodone start off at 10 mg and slowly increase it. Any one have any suggestions. I am getting an upset stomach trying to decide what to do. Please help.

35mg of oxycodone should be more than enough to cover RLS.

There is something else at play here.

What other medications are you on?

What does your food/ drink diary say about possible triggers.

No opioid can relieve the effects of serious triggers like msg, or other such poisons.

Until you get the other triggers sorted, there is no point tinkering around with more opioids.

I'm on 25 mg of oxycodone and had an absolutely brutal night last night------ what on earth caused that , says you!

Indian curry---- Simples.😝😭

In defence of Indian cuisine, the Lamb saag was out of this world, and when I had it on its own the night before, it had no bad effect whatsoever!!👍👍👍👍

Otherwise I get a good night's sleep ,as long as I keep clear of the triggers.

Good luck.

I was on 25mg Oxycontin( long lasting supposedly) & still had very severe RLS. It just doesn't help some RLS patients.

If I were you- I'd push for Buprenorphine. Andy Berkowski has compared Methadone v Buprenorphine and Buprenorphine comes out on top.

Average dose in UK is 0.4 to 0.8mg.

Average dose in USA is higher because 2mg is lowest dose pill so it's hard to split into lower doses.

I tried buprenorphine and it did funny things to me. I cant remember what but I put the patch on in the morning and had to take it off at night. I was feeling very weird. Methodone would be a better option.

#3 is out as dipyridamole hasn't been shown to work when you have been on DA especially as long as you were.

Oxycodone did not work for me so I am now on low dose buprenorphine which works a treat.

I eventually required 20 mg of Methadone per day. Most recently, down to 15mg. RLS not 100% controlled, but current status is perfectly acceptable.
