hi all, well I’ve put my first patch on this morning. However my legs feel as they want and need to move continuously but with less force.

How long does it take to get the full effect of my patch please?

According to Lotte- it can take 24 hours for the first patch to kick in.Any reason your GP chose the patch and not sub lingual pills? They kick in within an hour.

It was my neurologist as I get RLS at any time of day

Did you drop the last 0.5mg Ropinirole? Usually, once you are off Ropinirole, the daytime RLS disappears around 5 to 6 weeks later. Once the withdrawals have finished.See how the patch suits you.

You can always try the sublingual pills if you don't get full cover on the patch.

He advised me to get settled on buprenorphine before I came off the last .25mg so after 1/2 weeks I’m going to start every other day

If you are talking about reducing the ropinirole every other night. That is a bad idea! It just whipsaws your body into total reduction one night and back on it again the next night. Did your doctor tell you to do it this way?

Just reduce the .25 and be done with it, or if you are afraid that is too much, then reduce by 1/2 of the .25 pill and then 2 weeks later stop the last 1/2 pill.

Thank you it was me not my doctor. I’ve been cutting the .5 pill in half.

I think I’m scared after all these years on a DA but that’s my FND coming to the forefront

Thank you again

I'm glad it wasn't your doctor as I have him down as one to recommend.

It took 3 days for it to work for me and have had to increase dosage once.

Dear Bugsycat,

It has been shown that patches take about 24 hours to take significant effect and are not at their rated capacity until 24-36 hours. Even then the curves over a week is not flat at the top and by day 5 effectivity has deteriorated a lot. As a result I find I need to maintain a steady "flow" to use a top up with sublingual tablets. The long half life of buprenorphine also makes it difficult to fix a steady input. You need to experiment.

Sublingual tablets take 45-60 minutes to be effective.

Hope this helps

What’s a sublingual tablet please. How do you mean ‘the long half life’

Sorry to sound thick

No problem. A sublingual is a tablet that dissolves under your tongue.

The half life of a drug is to do with the length of time it takes for the drug to be active in your system
