A research study shows that the CGRP issues seem to have a role in RLS.

This is encouraging as it may lead to the development of drugs targeted at CGRP.

We know they won't ACTUALLY do any proper research for years. Unless there's big money involved.....

Nice work. CGRP antagonists are used for migraines - think Qulipta and Nurtec. Magnesium is a natural CGRP inhibitor and is often given intravenously to patients during a migraine attack. At least it used to be. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK5.... Hard to read - small letters.

Hello Joolsg. Thank you for sending the link through and looking at the other related studies show that there is a lot of research taking place with a lot of influential experts, unfortunately it all appears to be taken place in America and I suspect our RLS Consultants apart from Doctor Thomas in Cardiff have the time or drive to explore those research papers. I don’t understand the technical aspects and the form of description but the experts obviously do and that to my mind is what really matters.

Interestingly a doctor I recommended today one of the authors. Small world!

This is very interesting thanks Jools.

In addition to specific medications, AI suggests the following can help regulate CGRP (among other things)

Magnesium

Balancing magnesium and potassium

Low dose naltrexone, curcumin, boswellia omega-3s

Melatonin (recognising that it can worsen symptoms for RLS)

Botulinum Toxin (Botox)

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)

Gut microbiome modulation strategies including probiotics L. plantarum and Bifidobacterium breve, L. reuteri

What's interesting is that many of these have been recommended / explored for RLS previously.

Not what you're looking for?
